GHANAIAN GOLFER VINCENT TORGAH ENDS 2017 WITH NIGERIA MASTERS TRIUMPH, 11 WINS OUT OF 15 TOURNAMENTS

ACCRA, Ghana’s top golfer, Vincent Torgah, has capped an amazing 2017 with a year-ending triumph at the Nigeria Masters in Abuja over the weekend, which sealed his position of winner for West African Golf Tour after recording an unbelievable 11 wins out of 15 tournaments.

He also accumulated three consecutive victories over the past two months — at the Nigeria @57 tournament in October at Port Harcourt, followed by the Ivory Coast Open and finally the Nigeria Masters in Abuja.

Torgah, who arrived at the Kotoka International Airport here from Nigeria on Sunday, said he started badly in the Abuja tournament, but was able to improve his game in the later rounds to emerge victorious.

Describing his victory in Abuja as the toughest this year, he said he had doubts upon reaching Abuja because of the caliber of the golfers who participated, but he did his best and won his 11th tournament.

Torgah is looking forward to participating in Europe. “I am going to work hard after the Christmas break,” he added.

The President of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of Ghana, Anthony Kwame Mintah, said he was extremely proud of Torgah, who represents the true mark of a champion and modesty.

Describing Torgah as Ghana’s Tiger Woods, he said: “To win 11 out of 15 tournaments is remarkable and has not happened anywhere in the world.”

Mintah said the executives at the PGA are pushing hard to make the sport more popular. He also expressed gratitude to the media for their support.
