Ghana Revenue Authority educates small scale businesses on tax payments

Takoradi, A cross section of tax payers at a tax education seminar organized by the Western Regional Office of the Ghana Revenue Authority have stressed the need for a template to enable them easily calculate their taxes for prompt payment.

They also expressed worry about the figures quoted by the Authority in their provisional assessment forms and documents to small and medium enterprises during calculations of the amount of taxes to be paid by such entities.

These issues were raised during a seminar for more than 500 small businesses within the region on the need to voluntarily pay their taxes to void being caught up in the arms of the law.

Mr Benjamin Kofi Nyarko, Senior Revenue Officer of the GRA, who educated the participants on interests, penalties and offenses, urged businesses to pay their taxes on time.

He said under the current tax administration, failing to maintain documents, file returns, unauthorized attempts to collect taxes, aiding and abetting among others were punishable by law adding, The Commissioner General may in addition to the penalty imposed, prosecute the person to compel the person to submit their returns .

The Senior Revenue Officer advised the participants to promptly submit returns to forestall inconveniences and embarrassment.
