Ghana National Fire Service issues disclaimer

Kumasi, The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has denied directing any of its personnel to issue receipts to the public for registration of fire safety and fire-fighting equipment installation.

It has also not mandated any fire officer to collect money from people towards the supply of fire safety equipment to their premises.

This was contained in a statement signed by Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO), Robert Semekor Fiadzo, the Ashanti Regional Fire Officer, in Kumasi.

It said the Service had been inundated with reports that some unscrupulous people, posing as officers of the GNFS, had been going round demanding that people registered and paid fees for installation of fire safety equipment in their premises.

The statement directed the public not to hesitate to report such dubious persons to the GNFS Regional Office for prompt action.

The GNFS is by this alerting the public to the criminal activities of these fraudsters in order to avoid transacting any business whatsoever with them when they come to their premises either in uniform or plain clothes.

It said a formal complaint had been made to the police and urged public support to arrest and prosecute those fake people.
