Form neighbourhood watchdog committees against crime – Police

Sunyani, Chief Superintendent of Police Nana KwakuDuah, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Police Crime Officer on Wednesday advised communities to form neighbourhood watchdog committees to support crime combat.

He said the Police had intensified patrols to clamp down on criminal activities, but it would require active support from community members to control crime in the regions.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday in Sunyani, Chief Supt. Duah urged the public to remain watchful and report people with questionable characters to the Police.

He said the contemporary ways of fighting crime required active support from citizens and assured that the Police keep the identity of informants confidential.

Chief Supt. Duah said the Police would require concrete evidence to prosecute suspects and urged particularly victims of armed robberies to report to Police.

The Regional Crime Officer gave the advice in the wake of reported cases of armed robberies in parts of the Sunyani Municipality.

Armed robbers have been terrorising residents in the Sunyani Municipality for some time now and the most affected areas are Abesim, OheneDjan, Berlin Top and Airport residential area.

Recently the robbers broke into the room of a staff of the Sunyani Municipal Office of the National Service Secretariat at OheneDjan and robbed her of her personal belongings at gun point.
