Bridget Otoo, a well-known Ghanaian female broadcaster with Accra-based Metro TV has issued a boot-for-boot taunt to some persons believed to be foot soldiers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The ruling party’s social media thugs slammed the journalist for criticizing the government over the Cedi’s free fall.
The popular broadcaster advised critics not to be angry with her, but rather with Vice President Dr. Bawumia for failing to protect the Cedi as promised.
In a social media post today, August 30, she bemoaned the high prices of goods such as cement and other items, which are the result of the cedi’s disastrous fall. The cedi is currently traded above GHS10 per dollar, causing a collapse in many businesses.
“You are not mad at Dr. Bawumia for Lying to you about the cedi? You are not mad about the government letting the cedi cross 10 cedis? That businesses are struggling? You are mad at me for reporting the fact that cement prices have gone up by 7-8 cedis?
“Was I the one who told the cement companies to increase a bag of cement by 7-8 cedis? Or am I the president of Aboboya association who tells them to charge 2-4 cedis for a bag of cement?“ her posts read.
At the moment, the cedi’s fall has also resulted in a historic highest inflation rate of over 31% making life very unbearable for the citizenry.
Meanwhile, government has assured the citizens of its readiness to alleviate the situation with support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other home-grown policies.
