Accra: The Orange Women’s Network (OWN) at Fidelity Bank has supported 49 families at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
According to Ghana News Agency, the gesture, intended to mark the festive season, included financial and material support to ease the burden on beneficiaries dealing with challenges of neonatal care. OWN donated feeding accessories, baby clothes, and other essentials, while the financial assistance covered the cost of discharge, medicines, and laboratory bills for the newborns.
The group also provided counseling, with members sharing real-life experiences about childbirth. Ms. Esi Mills-Robertson, a lead founder of OWN and Marketing Director at Fidelity Bank, stated that the initiative was meant to comfort mothers and babies during challenging times. She emphasized that the festive season should be a time of joy and celebration, but it can also be a period of stress and anxiety for families with newborns in the NICU.
OWN provided essentials such as gloves, purple cannulas, plasters, packs of tissues, and gallons of liquid soap to the NICU staff. Ms. Mills-Robertson added that they understand the emotional and financial toll that neonatal care can take on families, and by easing these burdens, they hope to help parents focus on the well-being of their babies.
