FIASEC wins Goldfields 25th Anniversary Challenge Cup

Tarkwa (W/R)-Fiaseman Senior High School (FIASEC) was at the weekend crowned champions of the 25th Goldfields Anniversary Challenge Cup held at the Tarkwa Na Aboso park in the TarkwaNsueam Municipality.

FIASEC defeated Tarkwa Senior High School (TARSCO) 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at full time.

They were presented with a trophy, cash of GH3,000 and gold medals.

TARSCO emerged the first runner-up and they took home GH2,000 and silver medals, whilst Huni/Valley Senior High school (HUNIVASS) had G,000 and bronze medals.

Saint Augustine’s Senior High School in Bogoso (AUGUSCO) also received G,000.

In all, four Senior High Schools in TarkwaNsueam and PresteaHuni/Valley constituencies participated in the competition, which was organized and sponsored by Goldfields as part of their 25th anniversary celebration.

In an interview with the GNA Sports, Mr David Ebo Johnson, Vice President and Head of Stakeholder Relations, emphasised that as Goldfields was a mining company, whose brand was ssociated with football, they decided to organize the gala to promote sports in general.

He noted that through out of their 25 years of doing business in Ghana, Goldfields has received a lot of support from the government, stakeholders and its operational communities.

Mr. Johnson added that “without our communities we couldn’t have had a mining operation and so as we celebrate 25 years, we were also celebrating the contribution and the support we have gotten from our communities”.

Mr. Glibert Kennedy Asmah, the Municipal Municipal Chief Executive for TarkwaNsueam, congratulated all the participating schools and urged them to take active interest in sports to remain healthy.
