Farmer Accused of Raping Deaf and Dumb Woman Remanded into Custody

Asante abuakwa: A 43-year-old farmer has been remanded into prison custody by the Asante Abuakwa circuit court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality for allegedly raping a deaf and dumb woman in a bush.

According to Ghana News Agency, Abdulai Yussif pleaded not guilty to the charge of rape and will face the court, presided over by Ms. Rosemond Dodua Agyiri, on December 11. Police Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Kyei Baffour, who is prosecuting the case, informed the court that the victim, Yaa Agbavaon, aged 40, resided with her grandmother at Afreseni near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South-West District.

The incident occurred on July 14, around 10:00 a.m., when the victim was en route to her grandmother’s farm. At a certain point along the path, she became aware of the accused following her. As she stopped to let him pass, he allegedly grabbed her hand, dragged her into the bush, forcibly undressed her, and committed the act.

After the assault, the accused reportedly gave the victim a GHS 200.00 note and warned her against disclosing the incident to anyone. The victim later informed her grandmother of the ordeal upon reaching the farm. Consequently, a report was filed with the Mankranso police, leading to the arrest of the accused.

In his caution statement, Yussif admitted to the crime. Following further investigations, he was charged and subsequently brought before the court.
