The fourth session of the 14th Congregation of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, saw some 1,214 students from the Faculty of Management Studies graduate with various diplomas and bachelor’s degrees on Thursday.

In congratulating the graduating Class of 2022, the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor Abednego F. O. Amartey, charged them to constantly challenge themselves and strive for excellence by devising innovative ways of achieving more with less.

He asked them to confront life with the knowledge, skills, exposure and contacts they have acquired, and he emphasised the need for them to make room for errors as they set out to develop their careers and explore opportunities around the world.

“Do not be afraid of making mistakes,” the Vice-Chancellor said. “In the process of doing so, you will be learning interesting things, amazing new things, and glorious and fantastic new things,” he said.

“You may meet with setbacks. However, as we have trained you here at UPSA, remember that overcoming obstacles in life is possible. Others before you have succeeded amid challenges—you too can do it.”

For his part, the Congregation Speaker and Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, advised the graduands to epitomise integrity, courage, and innovation, in addition to the professional training they have received from UPSA.

He believes degrees and certificates can no longer serve as trump cards for young graduates due to ever-increasing competitive nature of the job market.

“Recognise that many are those who hold similar certificates and degrees that today would be conferred on you,” he said. “The most rewarding opportunities await those who stand out in the crowd, those who embrace innovation, those who will dare to venture where others are running from, and those who will offer solutions to some of the complex challenges we are facing today.”

He stressed that it is imperative for graduates to be innovative, adventurous, and willing to offer solutions to the myriad of challenges confronting their societies.
