East Legon Community Mourns Tragic Loss of Two Students in Fatal Car Accident

EAST LEGON: Families, friends, and the community of East Legon came together on Friday, October 18, 2024, to hold a solemn vigil in memory of Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, two young students who tragically died in a car accident on October 12. The event took place at the site of the accident, where participants gathered to pay their respects and remember the lives of the two girls.

According to Ghana Web, the girls were students at Cornerstone International Academy and were honored in a ceremony that included prayers and heartfelt tributes from those who knew them. Attendees stood in silent reflection, holding candles and flowers, as they mourned the devastating loss. The ceremony reached an emotional peak during a flower-laying session, which moved many to tears.

To conclude the vigil, over a dozen balloons were released into the sky, symbolizing a farewell to the two girls. The tragic accident that claimed their lives occurred when 16-year-old Elrad Salifu Amoako, the son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, lost
control of a Jaguar SUV and collided with a 4×4 Acura vehicle driven by Joseph Ackah. The collision resulted in both vehicles catching fire, with the occupants of the Acura being burned beyond recognition.

In the aftermath of the accident, the High Court in Accra granted bail of $50,000 each to Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako, following their arrest on October 15. They faced charges related to allowing their minor son to drive, which led to the fatal crash. A third individual, Linda Bempah, who provided Elrad with the car keys, was also granted bail.
