Department of children organises party for children

Tamale, The Northern Region office of the Department of Children has organised the president’s end of year party for children in Tamale.

The department brought together over 400 children comprising those who are in school as well as out of school for them to enjoy the president’s gesture of feeding the children during the Christmas festive occasion.

The aim of bringing the children together was to offer an opportunity to opinion leaders and stakeholders in child protection to interact with the children and give them the necessary advice and encouragement.

The aim was also to remind parents and other duty bearers to take keen interests in the education of their children as well as put protective measures in place for the children’s future.

Mr Iddrisu Sanday, the Northern Regional Director of the Department of Children speaking at the function advised parents to take advantage of social protection policies instituted by the government to enroll their children in school.

He appealed to opinion leaders in Tuutigli, a suburb of Tamale where the programme took place not to only seek physical developmental projects but they should also focus on the human resource development of their communities.

He explained that if development is sought for all sectors it will bring competition in the community and called for team work.

Mr Sanday expressed concern about the number of young girls getting married and resulting in teenage pregnancies and appealed for corrective measures to be put in place to stop the practice.

Mr Abdulai Issaka, speaking on behalf of the chief and people of the area expressed gratitude for the gesture and assured that pertinent issues raised at the party would be addressed.

He appealed to government to also extend the end of year party to the aged.
