David Angmornor is Ningo-Prampram District best farmer

Miotso (GAR)- Mr David Angmornor, 40-years-old owner of Davisco Farms has been crowned best farmer for the Ningo-Prampram District.

Mr Angmonor emerged the winner for having put 125 acres of land under cultivation and animal husbandry Including 20 acres of chilli pepper, 12 acres of sweet pepper and 10 acres of cattle in addition to 300 cattle, 50 sheep, 32 goats, 150 turkeys and 100 local fowls.

For his prize, he received a double door fridge, 32-inch LED television set, a bicycle, radio, agro chemicals and fertile among others.

Other farmers were rewarded for emerging district best farmers in livestock, crop, farmer based organization, physically challenged farmer, food processor, fish processor as well as the best extension officer.

Mr Fred Kwame Boadi-Asamoah, Ningo-Prampram District Agriculrure Director, said about 325 square kilometers of the. Riatl land holding of the district was arable.

Mr Boadi-Asamoah indicated that in 2018, 5,065.26 hectares of land was cultivated in the area while a total of about 18,259 cattle, 12,662 goats, 4,995 sheep and 4,672 pigs were reared during the year under review.

He added that the 10 major crops cultivated in the area were rice, maize, pepper, tomatoes, watermelons, mango, onion, okra, cassava and cow pea.

Animal and livestock produced in Ningo-Prampram are cattle, poultry, goats, sheep, Guinea fowl, pig, rabbit, duck, Turkey, snail and fish, he said.

Mr Jonathan Teye Doku, Ningo-Prampram District Chief Executive, read the President message and encourage residents to consume locally produced food items to create jobs for fellow Ghanaians.

Mr Doku commended the farmers in the District for working hard to produce enough food for society adding his outfit was aware of the deplorable roads in some of the farming areas which made it difficult for them to bring their produce to town markets.

He indicated that the Assembly together with the various traditional councils had tabled the road network issue before government and the relevant authorities for solution.

He added that his outfit in collaboration with the Coastal Development Authority would in the first quarter of 2020 would set up an Agric Mechanised Centre in the area to help promote mechanized farming in the area by providing farmers with the needed equipment.
