Customer Satisfaction Surveys to Drive Public Sector Performance – Education Minister

Accra: Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has called upon the newly formed Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) to implement a customer satisfaction survey aimed at evaluating the performance of public service institutions. The Minister’s initiative seeks to gauge the level of satisfaction among Ghanaians regarding the customer service provided across various sectors of the economy.

According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama has expressed his full trust and confidence in the Council’s ability to carry out this important task. The feedback from this survey is expected to play a crucial role in assessing the effectiveness of each institution’s service delivery. Mr. Iddrisu highlighted the prevalent issue of subpar customer service in certain public institutions, noting that some service providers often take Ghanaian consumers for granted.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 11-member governing council of CIMG in Accra, the Minister administered the oaths of o
ffice and secrecy to the members. He emphasized the need for agencies to engage more effectively with the public, especially in situations where service disruptions occur, such as electricity outages. Mr. Iddrisu challenged the governing council to leverage their marketing expertise to change this narrative.

The Minister also proposed the establishment of annual citizen accountability forums, where agencies would report on their performance, supported by data. Furthermore, he mentioned ongoing collaboration with the insurance industry to develop a regulatory bill to better serve customers involved in incidents, such as car accidents, where insurance companies might otherwise neglect them.

Mr. Iddrisu encouraged the Council to develop strategies to enhance Ghana’s global image, starting from the office of the Presidency and extending to all economic sectors. He praised Dr. Daniel Kasser Tee, the former President of CIMG, for his efforts in advancing marketing standards in the country.

The newly appointed Ch
airman of the CIMG Governing Council, Mr. Michael Abbiw, expressed gratitude to the government for entrusting the Institute with this responsibility. He reiterated the Council’s commitment to setting marketing standards and affirmed their intention to conduct the survey and address public needs based on the feedback received.

The CIMG Governing Council members include Ms. Ama Gifty Amoah, Mr. Edwin Letsa K.Kpedor, Dr. Francis Mensah Sasraku, Mr. Kwabena Akuamoah Agyekum, Ms. Hilda Peasah, Mr. Kwasi Kyere, and Norrender Wordier Debrah.
