Accra: The Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) marked this year’s World Chocolate Day by organizing the inaugural ‘Alltime Inter-School Competition’ aimed at raising awareness about the significance of cocoa for human health. The event brought together students from Datus Complex School, First Star Academy, Deks Educational Institute, and Creator Schools to participate in various activities such as dancing, artwork, poetry, the Alltime jingle, and a food fair.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Agyemang Ansong, the Sales and Marketing Manager for CPC, addressed the students, emphasizing that World Chocolate Day, celebrated on July 7 each year, is meant to encourage chocolate consumption. He highlighted Ghana’s status as the world’s second-largest cocoa producer and the importance of promoting chocolate as a symbol of joy and unity. Ansong urged students to consume cocoa products, particularly the company’s Alltime Chocolate Drink, to benefit from its nutritional properties.
The event aims to be held annually to discover talents among students and contribute to youth development, while also celebrating the rich heritage associated with cocoa products. Mr. Michael Ekow Amoah, Deputy Director of Research and Development at the Ministry of Finance, educated the students on the cocoa value chain and shared the history of Tetteh Quarshie, who introduced cocoa beans to Ghana from Fernando Po in Equatorial Guinea. Amoah explained the collaborative efforts involved in the cocoa industry, from planting seeds to distribution and marketing.
Mr. Thomas Asante, a representative from CPC, highlighted the numerous health benefits of cocoa, including its nutrients and antioxidants that support brain development, blood circulation, and energy levels. He encouraged daily cocoa consumption for these health benefits. During the event, students enjoyed free chilled Alltime chocolate drinks, and schools and students excelling in the competitions received certificates and CPC Golden Tree products.
