Accra: The Kaneshie District Court One has sentenced a 23-year-old cashier to three months of imprisonment with hard labor for embezzling GHC8,575.00 from his employer to fund his gambling activities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Andy Tetteh, the convicted cashier, admitted to his crime when he appeared in court, leading to his conviction based on his own plea. The court was informed by Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah that the complainant, Mr. Teye Simon Kwabla, serves as the Manager at Bingo Bets located in Ecomog, Adabraka.
Tetteh was responsible for handling cash transactions at the betting company and resided in Ecomog. On April 30, 2025, he received GHC8,575.00 from customers who placed bets at the establishment. However, he failed to account for the collected funds to the manager.
The court further heard that Mr. Kwabla reported the incident to the police, which resulted in the arrest of Tetteh. During the investigation, it was discovered that Tetteh had used the money for gambling but lost it all. After the investigation, he was formally charged and brought before the court, leading to his sentencing.
