Adenta: The Adenta Circuit Court has remanded a laundry attendant, Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, into police custody for allegedly publishing false news intended to cause fear and panic. Razzaq, 30, reportedly posted a video on his TikTok account, @breakingnewsghana, claiming that two military officers were conspiring to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama.
According to Ghana Web, the court did not take Razzaq's plea and ordered that he remain in custody until his next court appearance on February 9, 2026. The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, is pursuing the case with the Ghana Police Service acting as the complainant.
On January 20, 2026, Razzaq allegedly published a video naming Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph as the officers involved in the supposed plot. He was subsequently arrested the following day in Adjiringanor, located in the Greater Accra Region.
In his caution statement, Razzaq admitted to creating the video but claimed he had never met the officers nor knew them personally. He stated that he had 'chanced upon a post on social media' about the assassination plot, which motivated him to make the publication. However, he was unable to provide investigators with the source of the alleged post.
