Court orders psychiatric assessment of man held over anal sex

Accra A Circuit Court in Accra has ordered a psychiatric examination to be conducted on 35-year old man being held for alleged anal sex with a 10-year old girl at Agege, a suburb of Accra.

When the man, whose name was given as Akwasi, aka Shoeshine, was put before the court, he declined to answer questions put to him.

Akwasi only looked on without responding to questions asked in Twi, Ga and other languages.

The court presided over by Mrs Rita Abrokwa Doko therefore ordered a psychiatric assessment.

Meanwhile the court has admitted Akwasi to bail in the sum of G0,000 with two sureties to reappear on November 8.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo said complainant in the matter is the father of the victim.

The complainant resides at Shaibu while the victim resides at Agege with her grandmother.

ASP Boafo said Akwasi lives at Chorkor in Accra and on September 18, this year, the victim closed from school and was on her way home when Akwasi met her and lured her into a secluded place behind and had anal sex with her.

In the evening, prosecution said, the victim’s aunt detected that the victim’s gait had changed.

Following vigorous questioning by the aunt, the victim narrated her ordeal to the complainant and a report was made to the Police at Dansoman.

A medical report was issued to the complainant to seek medical treatment for the victim and Akwasi was also arrested.
