Accra: A five-member delegation of the Council of State, led by Chairman Nana Otuo Siribuor, has called on the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, at Parliament House in Accra. The meeting aimed to gain insights into recent developments within the legislature that led to the indefinite adjournment of the House.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement issued by the Parliamentary Service highlighted that after extensive discussions, the Council of State members assured the Speaker of their readiness to assist in resolving any impasse to facilitate the House’s recall. The Speaker provided a briefing on the parliamentary situation and clarified his statements made on the House floor.

The Speaker reaffirmed his dedication to advancing the country’s democratic processes and serving its citizens. The Council commended Speaker Bagbin for maintaining Ghana’s democratic reputation through effective legislative management and leadership roles in organizations such as the Commonwealth Parliame
ntary Association International, Conference of the Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures, and the International Legislative Advisory Council of the National Conference of State Legislatures in the USA.

Nana Otuo Siribuor urged the Speaker to continue his commendable work for the benefit of Ghana and its people. Speaker Bagbin informed the delegation of his obligation to lead the Ghanaian parliamentary delegation at the 67th Conference of the CPA International in Sydney, Australia.

The statement noted that the delegation included Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, a former Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Suame, along with other parliamentary leaders and officials. The conference is scheduled for November 3rd to 8th, where Speaker Bagbin, the outgoing President of CPA International, will hand over to the newly elected President, the Speaker of the Parliament of New South Wales, Australia.

Speaker Bagbin, however, mentioned his intention to return to Ghana earlier than planned to address the r
equest by Members of Parliament for the House’s recall. He stated that his office had already initiated processes for the recall in early November. Additionally, Speaker Bagbin was recently re-elected for a second term as President of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures.
