A forum has been organized to discuss strategies for the hand holding and mentoring of all beneficiary institutions under the Institutional Production Units (IPUs) initiative for ten selected Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

The Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET), through its Development of Skills for Industry Project (DSIP), is implementing the IPU project to strengthen institutional learning in TVET institutions.

The objective of the IPU initiative is to strengthen existing or promote new Production Units in TVET institutions to become efficient and effective through proper management structures and sustainable programmes.

To that effect, the project has provided all the ten beneficiary institutions with their first and second tranches of US$50,000 to US70, 000 to support them to sustain the management and operationalization of the IPUs while an Inter-Ministerial Committee IMC has been established to support and provide guidance to the IPUs.

Addressing participants at the forum organized by COTVET in partnership with Industry in Accra, Mrs Gertrude Addo, National Technical Assistant, COTVET, explained that the forum formed part of efforts by COTVET to ensure that funds allocated for the project were being judiciously applied.

Mrs Addo said the forum also aimed to link each IPU to an existing Industry under the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Ghana Chamber of Commerce or an accredited Industry to help shape the management and sustainability of the programme.
