Citizen platform urged to ensure operationalization of Zonal Councils

Koforidua- Mr Appiah Kwaku Boateng, Executive Director of 4H Ghana, a youth focused non-governmental organization, has urged members of the citizen platform to continue to advocate for the operationalization of the Zonal Councils.

This is to ensure that local government was truly brought to the doorsteps of the people as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution and to promote the inclusion of the people in the resolution of their developmental issues.

Mr Boateng was speaking at a training programme for leaders of citizen platform, which was established under the 4H Ghana and Star Ghana Project to enhance the performance of Zonal Councils and the participation of citizens in local governance in the New Juaben South Municipal area.

The four Zonal Councils, when operational under the project, will help include the vulnerable to include people with disability in local governance, and help increase the revenue of the area, which include Adweso, Zongo, Anglo Town and Nsukwao Zonal Councils.

He called on the participants to mobilize local resources to see to the implementation of the project even after the project had formally come to an end.

Mr Boateng explained that, mobilization of local resources was not begging but giving an opportunity to people in the community to contribute towards the development of the area where they resided.

Mr Kofi Afari, Project Coordinator of 4H Ghana called for the inclusion of many women and people with disability in appointment of people to work in activities and programmes of the project.
