I’m not a coward – Asamoah Gyan vows to deal with persons who attack him on social media

Legendary Ghanaian footballer Asamoah Gyan has vowed to continue to issue ‘appropriate’ responses to persons who attack him on social media.

Asamoah Gyan believes that he has a right to respond accordingly to such persons and that failure to do so will be an exhibition of cowardice.

According to Gyan, he has built a reputation and credibility over the years and will not allow anyone to come at him in the name of social media.

“I should sit for somebody to come talk to me anyhow cos it’s social media right? I’m not a coward like some people,” he stated.

A social media user who sought to rubbish Gyan’s claim that inexperience was the Black Stars’ bane in their game against Brazil in the 2006 World Cup drew Gyan’s ire.

Asamoah Gyan denied suggestions that Ghana was overpowered by the star-studded Brazilian side, explaining that the team’s lack of experience cost it a place in the quarter-final of the competition in Germany.

“Experience was the difference in that game, but I disagree if you say we were cook
ed, bro. Go back and watch the full game, bro,” he wrote in reply to a post by journalist Owuraku Ampofo suggesting Ghana got ‘cooked’ in the game.

Gyan’s explanation elicited a reply from a tweep who said, “My friend, my friend. Them cook we.”

An unhappy Asamoah Gyan denied any association with the tweep, stating, “Who is your friend? I blame social media. Eni wo n3.”

What happened in the game?

Ghana was no match for Brazil, who thumped the African giants 3-0. The Black Stars conceded the first goal just five minutes into the game. Asamoah Gyan was sent off in the 81st minute after picking up a second yellow card for diving.

The Black Stars had finished second in Group E with 6 points, beating the Czech Republic and USA while losing to group winners Italy.

Ronaldo, Adriano, and Ze Roberto scored goals for Brazil in the game played on June 27, 2006.

Our goalkeeper’s error was due to inexperience – Hearts of Oak coach

Hearts of Oak coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, believes the lack of experience by goalkeeper Sharif Shuaib caused the team’s defeat in their game against Bibiani GoldStars.

In an attempt for a fast break, Shuaib’s shot deflected off an opposition player’s body and Mawuli Way took advantage of it to score the only goal in the match.

Speaking after the game, the Ivorian coach stated that the goalkeeper needs more time to settle down and work on some mistakes.

‘That unfortunately, we conceded one goal, that’s the problem,’ Aboubakar Ouattara told StarTimes after the game.

‘That counterattack the goalkeeper wanted to do; that is a lack of the experience of him, but I think all these things, we are there to prepare the team.’

Heart of Oak have suffered back-to-back defeats under Aboubakar Ouattara after going unbeaten for five games under the Ivorian trainer.

The Phobians are currently 10th on the league table with 32 points.

Man Utd 2-2 Liverpool: Bruno Fernandes scores 50-yard stunner as visitors’ title hopes dented

Manchester United and Liverpool played out a sensational 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, as Jurgen Klopp’s side missed the chance to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League.

Luis Diaz put Liverpool ahead in a one-sided first half during which they had 16 shots to United’s zero, but Bruno Fernandes levelled in brilliant style when he pounced on Jarell Quansah’s poor pass to beat the stranded Caoimhin Kelleher from 50 yards out.

United took an unlikely lead when Kobbie Mainoo curled a beautiful finish into the top corner, punishing Liverpool’s earlier wastefulness, but the game took another twist when Mohamed Salah netted from the spot after Aaron Wan-Bissaka had fouled Harvey Elliott.

It was another extraordinary contest between the two sides, only three weeks after the seven-goal FA Cup thriller from which United emerged victorious, and it remained open until the last.

In the end, the draw ensures Manchester United avoid back-to-back defeats following their 4-3 loss to Chelsea in midweek, allowing them to de
nt their old rivals’ title hopes in the process, with leaders Arsenal now in pole position in the race for the crown.

I am very sorry – Songo finally apologizes to John Paintsil

Sports journalist, Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo, has finally issued an apology to Black Stars assistant coach, John Paintsil after the latter pressed charges against him.

Countryman Songo who is one of the defendants in a defamation suit by John Paintsil issued an apology to the ex-player during his show on Adom TV on Monday, April 8, 2024.

The journalist who was remorseful for his actions said his utterances against the Black Stars assistant coach were misguided because he allowed his emotions to override him.

‘God said we should be straightforward so if you realize that you’ve wronged your brother, just apologize. I want to apologize to John Paintsil for some things that didn’t go well. He’s a deputy Black Stars coach. I said certain things that didn’t sit well with him and it worried him,” Songo said.

He added, “Sometimes when you get angry you say things that you later regret because you didn’t handle things well. So I want to tell him I am sorry and I ask for his forgive
ness because after all football is the reason we are in this industry.”

Background

John Paintsil sued four sports journalists and three media entities for defamation and demanded GHS80 million in damages.

The journalists named in the lawsuit were Veronica Commey, Saddick Adams, Christopher Nimley, and Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo.

Additionally, the media entities Omni Media Limited, Angel Broadcasting Network, and Multimedia Group were served with a writ.

They were given eight days to respond and enter an appearance in court.

John Paintsil came under heavy criticism following his appointment as deputy coach of Ghana’s senior national team.

He had earlier courted public disaffection after chastising some journalists, including some of those named in his suit, for leading a demonstration against the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The demonstration sought to highlight the poor state of football in Ghana and sports in general and to draw the
attention of the regulatory bodies to the issue.

But John Paintsil mounted a spirited defence for the GFA and the ministry, noting that the protest lacked merit.
