NDC national election: Joseph Yamin accuses Sam Pyne of sabotaging his campaign in Kumasi

National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has accused the Kumasi Mayor, Samuel Pyne of sabotaging his election through diabolic tactics.

“Going into our national delegates congress last week, Sam Pyne hired people to remove all my posters and banners in the region to block my visibility. Though he assured me that he will protect my posters for me, he was the same person fighting against me behind the scenes,” he alleged in an interview on Kumasi-based Abusua FM.

The former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister vowed to win at least 7 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti region during the election 2024 which they can’t afford to lose.

Although he refused to mention the said constituencies the party is targeting he said he will spend much of his campaign activities in the Ashanti region.

“I’m the national organizer of the NDC therefore, I have the responsibility to work across all constituencies in the country but trust me I will be more visible in the Ashanti region. I will stop all their rigging machines’’ he assured. The former deputy sports minister assured that the NDC will eschew violence in the 2024 election.”

“It’s going to be a tactical election campaign in which the NDC will resist all threats and violence attacks.”

“I can assure all NDC supporters across the country that the current NDC national executive will secure victory for the party all we need from you the party members is to support our work according to our tactics and instruction’’

He said the current NPP national executives can never match the NDC’s newly elected national executives.

“Justin Kodua, Nana B among others when I started politics they were doing TESCON politics. Although they have won their positions but they can never retain the NPP in power they will set a new record which is leading the NPP into opposition. I’m not surprised the NPP is worried about my election’’.

Ofori-Atta’s fate will be decided after budget debate – NPP

The leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated its stance on the calls for the finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta to be removed from office.

General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Koduah has stated that every decision concerning the removal of Ofori-Atta will be made public after the budget debate in parliament.

“As we all know we are still in the debate stage in Parliament so I can assure you that once we are through with the process, the party will come back and whatever decision that will be taken between the party, members of Parliament and the presidency, we will make it known to the media and Ghanaians at large,” JFK said while speaking to some journalists in Accra.

This statement comes at the back of the staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to procure $3M.

It will be recalled that over 80 MPs on Tuesday, October 25, held a press conference to demand that Ken Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen be sacked from their respective roles.

This led to a meeting with President Akufo-Addo where he requested that the finance minister be allowed to conclude the IMF talks and present the 2023 budget statement.

NDC youth organiser saga: Mahama convinces Brogya Genfi to withdraw injunction against Pablo

President John Dramani Mahama has succeeded in convincing the aggrieved defeated National Youth Organiser aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Yaw Brogya Genfi to withdraw his interim injunction against George Opare Addo.

Mr Genfi secured the injunction at the Amasaman High Court on Friday, December 17, citing unfair electoral practices that in his view led to his defeat at the NDC’s Youth and Women’s Conference held at the University of Cape Coast.

He lost by 25 votes to the current National Youth Organiser, popularly referred to as Pablo.

Mr Mahama, however, said he has met with Mr Genfi and the outcome of their successful discussion is the decision to withdraw the case from court.

“We must work together, fully committed to Victory 2024, and the discussion with comrade Genfi was most encouraging,” Mr Mahama stated.

He stressed that the NDC must focus on building a united front at all levels of the party, “and this is a great beginning.”

Mr Genfi has also in a statement confirmed his decision to withdraw the case and also called for a united front to enable the NDC to wrestle power from the NPP in 2024

Duffuor asks NDC to close ranks after national executives election

Former Finance Minister and Flagbearer aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Duffuor has called on the party to close its ranks after a successful conclusion of its national executives elections.

In a post from his certified social media handles, Dr. Duffuor advised that the election was a family contest and that the real work towards the 2024 elections must begin.

“Congratulations to all newly elected national executives from our National Delegates Congress on Saturday. This was merely an internal contest – the main battle lies ahead. It is time to come together and work towards our common goal of victory in 2024!”

The call has since been retweeted several times on Twitter and garnered thousands positive responses on Facebook. Many of the responders who are NDC members have also been promising their support for Dr. Duffuor’s bid to lead the party in 2024.

The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana recently declared his intention to contest for the 2024 presidential ticket of the NDC when nominations open.

“Today, I officially announce my intention to contest for the Flagbearership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) anytime the party opens nominations. I will offer myself once again to serve the land of my birth with humility and sacrifice when given the chance to do so.”

This was on the 3rd of November, 2022.The announcement has since received endorsement from millions of NDC supporters and thousands of party members. By this announcement, it means Dr. Duffuor will very likely contest former President John Mahama for the 2024 presidential ticket.

Many feel Mahama is a political spent force while Duffuor would inject new energy into the leadership of the NDC.

Again, many level-headed NDC members see John Mahama as gamble if the NDC makes him flagbearer again because of the former President’s baggages from his previous presidency which led to the NDC losing the 2016 and 2020 elections. With Duffuor’s background as an Ashanti and an astute economist, many see him as the ideal candidate to sell to Ghanaians at a time that the economy is in mess.

Also, his tribal background is seen as opportune for the NDC to make serious inroads into the Ashanti region where Duffuor comes from.

NDC has elected ‘radical’ executives – Paul Adom-Otchere

Broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) elected party radicals to the national executive positions of the party in the just-ended delegate congress.

He explained that except for the National Youth Organiser, Geroge Opare Addo, all the NDC national executives the delegates elected are radicals because they appeal to only core supporters of the party and not neutrals or moderate supporters.

“What the NDC did on Saturday is to give a clear signal one way or the other. So, what the NDC did was elect party radicals, that is what they did.

“Johnson Asiedu Nketiah (the NDC chairman) is an ultimate radical… Yamin (the National Organiser) is a very, very radical person. Fifi Kwetey is a complete radical, very clever man I have to say. Sammy Gyamfi (National Communication Officer) is a complete radical, he also appeals to the core of the NDC supporters,” he said during an editorial on his Good Evening Ghana programme on Tuesday, December 12, 2022, which was monitored by GhanaWeb.

Adom-Otchere, however, questioned whether the move by the delegates of the party to elect NDC radicals could help the party secure victory in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, whenever the NDC wins a presidential election, it has moderate NDC members in its executive body or as its presidential candidate or running mate who attract neutral voters.

He added that former President John Dramani Mahama, who is the presumptive candidate of the NDC, was previously considered a moderate NDC member but now appeals more to radical members of the party.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah won the party’s Chairmanship race at the National Delegates Congress held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, December 12, 2022.

Asiedu Nketia garnered 5574 while his contenders Ofosu Ampofo had 2892 votes; Samuel Yaw Adusei, 52 votes and Nii Armah Ashietey, 38 votes.

Fifi Kwetey is my junior; he should know that he is no longer a propaganda secretary – JFK

The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said that the newly elected General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, must be able to differentiate between his role as the chief executive of the NDC and his previous role as the propaganda secretary of the party.

Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK) said that Fifi Kwetey must engage in issue-based politics and desist from spreading lies about his political opponents as he did when he was the propaganda secretary of the NDC.

Speaking on the sidelines of an NPP press conference on Wednesday, December 22, 2022, the NPP general secretary added that he is advising Fifi Kwetey because he is senior to him when it comes to the general secretary role.

“As you know, I’m senior to him; I became general secretary before he did. So, as a junior general secretary, I gave him advice which is straightforward. He should know that he is no longer a propaganda secretary.

“… but he has become an administrator of a major political party in Ghana, and his actions and inactions should match the position that he occupies.

“We all know what happened in 2008 when he made serval unsavoury comments about former President Kufour that he has stolen all the gold in Ghana … and also (that the) NPP has foreign accounts that turned out to be false,” he said.

JFK also stated that the NPP is unconcerned about the calibre of people the NDC has chosen as national executives.

He added that the outcome of the 2024 general elections will be determined by the strategy the two leading political parties put in place.
