Accra: The Ghana Kendo Federation (GKF) successfully concluded its inaugural National Inter-Club Championship at the Accra Sports Stadium. The event showcased a range of talents across various age categories, marking a significant milestone for the sport in the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, Bright Akanyi emerged victorious in the Under 22 Men’s category, closely followed by Emmanuel Ahiable and Boadi Joseph, with Jacob Awlesu Psolhdjar securing third and fourth positions, respectively. In the Under 18-21 men’s category, Zakari Timtoni clinched first place, with Gideon and Henry Nunoo trailing behind.
Marvin Garvin dominated the Under 15-17 boys’ category, while Amad Kwame Boakye, Justice Abrokwah, and David Ahiagah rounded out the top four. Meanwhile, Millicent Agbesi triumphed in the under-18 female category, and Emmanuella Ahiable led the Under 12-15 categories. In the Under 12-14 men’s categories, Henry Edem Daniado took first place, followed by Hakim Asamani and Mohammed Asamani in the subsequent positions.
The youngest participants in the Under 7-8 categories saw Blessing Mantebea Alornyo and David Attipoe-Adjaho securing first place in the female and male categories, respectively. Sybil Attipoe-Adjaho and Jude Sameri Dzakpasu were notable runners-up. Emmanuella Ahiable and Blessing Mantebea Alornyo were recognized as the most promising female players, while David Attipoe-Adjaho and Emmanuel Ahiable received similar accolades for the men. Bright Akanyi was acknowledged as the most aggressive player, with David Attipoe-Adjaho being named the most technical player.
Mr. Sesi Dzakpasu, President of the GKF, highlighted the inclusive nature of Kendo, emphasizing its accessibility to individuals aged seven to 70 years. He expressed satisfaction with the progress demonstrated in this year’s tournament compared to previous competitions. According to Mr. Dzakpasu, the federation has advanced in areas such as technique, rule application, and game-related procedures.
The federation is committed to continuing its efforts in enhancing officiating and conducting coaching seminars. ‘We were able to identify a lot of talents in the competition, both in the junior and the senior categories,’ Mr. Dzakpasu added, underscoring the potential future stars in Ghana’s Kendo scene.
