Berekum Chelsea stun Hearts in season’s opener

Accra- Accra Hearts of Oak succumbed to a surprising 1-0 defeat at the hands of Berekum Chelsea in the opening match of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A solitary strike by Jonah Attoquaye on 37th minute mark was enough to secure the away side their first win with Hearts fans left in despair and anguish after the match.

The game started on a cagey note with both sides trying to establish their grasp on the game.

Berekum Chelsea came out top in the first 20 minutes as they played some delightful football but couldn’t create many opportunities upfront.

Hearts struggled to put together a combination of passes with their fans left frustrated.

Berekum Chelsea winger Jonah Attoquaye opened the scoring for the away side on the 37th minute mark with a solo effort as he dazzled past Hearts defender Alhassan Mohammed and struck the ball past Richmond Ayi in the Hearts goal post.

Iddirsu Nureini Cato should have doubled the lead for the away side three minute later but brilliant goalkeeping on part of Richmond Ayi ensured Chelsea went into half time with a one goal lead.

Hearts begun the second half on the front foot as they searched for the equalizer.

The came close into restoring parity through Hokemba Avouka but Berekum Chelsea goalkeeper Ibrahim Danladi was equal to the task.

Hearts mounted relentless pressure on Chelsea defence but the away side stood firm which left the fans frustrated.

Hearts striker Kofi Kordzi came close in levelling proceedings in the 82nd minute but his ferocious strike rattled the cross bar.

Berekum Chelsea held on to their lead and claimed maximum three points.
