Tamale- Alhaji Mohammed Baantima Samba, a businessman, has been elected Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region at the Party’s Delegates Conference held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on Saturday.
Alhaji Samba polled 311 votes to defeat the then incumbent Mr Daniel Bugri Naabu, who obtained 116 votes.
Mr Sulley Sambian, a Lawyer, was also elected Regional Secretary polling 228 votes to defeat the then incumbent, Mr Sule Salifu.
Five hundred and sixty-six delegates from 29 out of the 31 Constituencies in the Region voted during the elections.
Nalerigu/Gambaga and Yunyoo Constituencies did not take part in the elections due to some unresolved issues.
Other officers elected were Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Assistant Secretary, Alhaji Iddrisu Sunday, First Vice-Chairman, and Mrs Felicia Tettey, Second Vice-Chairman.
The rest were Alhaji Rashid Salifu, Regional Organizer, Mr Mohammed Alhassan Ghana, Youth Organizer, Alhaji Shamuna Ilyasu, Nasara Coordinator, Hajia Rahana Aziz, Women Organizer, and Alhaji Sibdow Alhassan Yakubu, Treasurer.
The newly elected executives were sworn into office after the declaration of the results by officials of the Electoral Commission.
They will serve a four-year tenure.
Alhaji Samba, in his acceptance speech after they were sworn into office, called for unity amongst all Party members and entreated them to work as a team to advance the interest of the Party.
