Airotix Technology Triumphs in AngloGold Ashanti’s First Obuasi Business Innovation Challenge

Obuasi: Airotix Technologies has emerged victorious in AngloGold Ashanti's inaugural Obuasi Business Innovation Challenge 2025, securing GHS100,000 as seed capital, along with a plaque and a certificate of recognition. The winning team, comprised of four innovative young men from the Obuasi community, developed a device capable of detecting air pollution levels. Their presentation impressed judges with its clarity and depth.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Business Innovation Challenge was established by AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) to empower local communities by fostering innovative thinking and supporting high-potential enterprises in Obuasi. Mr. Samuel Pobee, Managing Director of AGA, described the six-month challenge as a journey of creativity and determination, beginning with 42 contestants and narrowing down to 10 finalists through a rigorous process.

Mr. Pobee highlighted that the challenge is part of AGA Obuasi Mine's 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP), aiming to create sustainable jobs, diversify the economy, and promote community development. By investing in local talent, AGA seeks to stimulate economic activity and support resilient communities.

Additionally, AGA has implemented various enterprise and skills development programs, including the Skills Development and Certification Programme and the Business Acceleration and Sustainability Programme (BAST). These initiatives have trained 1,383 MSMEs, with women making up 53% of participants. The programs have resulted in increased revenue and job creation, positively impacting over 200,000 people in Obuasi.

In the competition's final pitch, Oli-Emma Paints secured second place with GHS50,000, while Charcoal Master came third with GHS30,000. Lyn Special Kelewele and Joy Engineering received GHS20,000 and GHS10,000, respectively, for fourth and fifth positions. All participants were awarded certificates of participation.

Mr. Wesley Akanyako, Operations and Research Officer for Airotix Technologies, expressed gratitude to AGA for their support and pledged to use the funds effectively.
