Accra, The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has appointed Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu as the Chef D’ Mission of Team Ghana for the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas.
Mr. Afadzinu, who is an executive member of the GOC and head of the Sponsorship and Marketing Sub-Committee and President of the Ghana Table Tennis Federation (GTTF), will use his rich experience in sport administration to lead the team to a successful competition.
The appointment was contained in a press statement from the GOC on Sunday.
The sixth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games would commence on July 19 and end on July 23, 2017.
Ghana will participate in Athletics, Amateur Boxing, Beach Volleyball, Cycling, Swimming and Tennis.
Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the GOC in a statement said, team sports like rugby and beach soccer were not included in the selected disciplines, due to financial constraints.
He added that each discipline would present two athletes thus one male and one female and will be accompanied by five officials and a press attache.
Mr. Nunoo Mensah said, Ghana’s participation in the Games will cost about $US130, 000, the GOC would support with $US50, 000 while the Ministry of Youth and Sports will cover the remaining $US80, 000.
