Accra- Ghana’s only representative in the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Champions League, Aduana Stars defeated Algerian side ES Setif, by a lone goal at the Nana Agyeman Badu Park on Wednesday, in the first leg match of the competition.
Sam Adams scored the only goal of the game, through a penalty in the 72nd minute, to secure a win for the Ghana Premier League champions.
ES Setif approached the game with defensive tactics and relied on counter attacks in search of the much needed away goal, which eluded them.
ES Setif held Aduana Stars to a goalless draw in the first half after squandering a lot of chances.
Coach Yusif Abubakar brought in experienced player Yahaya Mohammed in the later stages of the second half to help strengthen the attack, but the Algerian side were able to hold the Dormaa based club till the end of the game.
Aduana Stars would be heading into the second leg with a one goal advantage and must avoid conceding an away goal to progress to the group stages of the competition.
