Kpeledzoo Groups praise Tema MCE for promising justice

The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Yohane Amarh Ashitey, was the toast of the people of Tema on Tuesday, after he emerged from a meeting with security chiefs at the TMA to announce a decision to probe and bring to justice, perpetrators of the shooting incident that cost two lives during this year’s Kpeledzoo festival procession.

At the Kpeledzoo Tsoshishi in Tema Manhean, the MCE was given a standing ovation and mobbed after he announced that an investigation was commencing into the incident.

‘We are commencing investigations and I want to assure all of us that whoever the perpetrators are, justice will be done.’

He said to wild applause from a crowd of mostly indigenes who had convened to hear about the outcome of the MCE’s meeting. The meeting had been between the MCE and the Military High Command led by Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu.

Also, in the meeting which had been held behind closed doors at the Assembly were representatives from the Tema Traditional Council (TTC).

According to the MCE, the cons
ensus was that an investigation would be carried out to ascertain the circumstances under which the shooters pulled the trigger, and that whoever is found culpable will not be spared.

It would be recalled that during a procession in front of the Tema Naval Base as part of this year’s Kpeledzoo festival, some Naval personnel had shot into the crowd on the procession, killing two and others sustained injury.

Media reports have claimed that the Naval Officers had shot at the crowd in response to the fact that they were being pelted with broken bottles by some people in the crowd on the procession. However, this has been disputed.

After meeting with the military high command and members of the Tema Traditional Council, the MCE emerged from the meeting in the company of the Tema East New Patriotic Party Chairman, Nene OfoeTeye-chu Agbadiagba lV, and met with the people and announced the decision to probe and punish the culpable.

‘I use this opportunity to also announce that we will help the bereaved families t
o give befitting burials to their fallen loved ones,’ the MCE announced to wild applause, with some members of the crowd rushing forward to mob him.

He also said, there had been a consideration of what can be done to end the recurrence of such bloody incidents recalling that there had been similar bloody clashes between the people and members of the security services in 1976 and 2010.

After answering questions to the admiration of the many Kpeledzoo youth in attendance, the MCE was applauded for his unique fighting spirit against injustice. The youth chanted war songs with shouts of ‘Yohane is our next MP’.

Speaker after speaker was full of praise for the MCE and the Regional Minister for their show of love for the bereaved families and the people of Tema in general.

On his part, Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba IV assured the people that the government of president Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia are very concerned about the incident and are prepared to shepherd a process to bring a just closure to th
e incident.

‘I can tell you that since the incident, brilliant Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has been regularly checking up to ensure that justice is done,’ Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba IV said to thunderous applause.

Leaked audio: Be ready to open defence in Ofosu-Ampofo’s absence – Court to Kwaku Boahen

The High Court in Accra has directed a former Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Anthony Kwaku Boahen to be ready to open his defence on May 30 should Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo still remain absent.

Ofosu-Ampofo (1st Accused), the former National Chairman of the NDC, was expected in court on Thursday, April 25, to open his defence to charges but he was absent.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo has been absent since November last year, with his lawyers, led by Tony Lithur informing the court that, his client had had a ‘minor surgery’ and would be expected back in the country on the third week of May.

Ofosu-Ampofo is standing trial together with Anthony Kwaku Boahen, a former Deputy Communications Officer of the NDC.

They are being tried for allegedly conspiring to cause harm to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and the Chairman of the Peace Council.

Both are also separately facing a charge of assault on a public officer and have both pleaded not guilty and have been granted bail.

M
r Ofosu-Ampofo was expected to open his defence in court today, April 25.

Minor surgery

His lead lawyer, Tony Lithur told the court, presided over by Justice Samuel Asiedu, a Justice of the Supreme Court sitting with an additional responsibility as a High Court judge, that the first accused (Ofosu-Ampofo) is still out of the country.

Asked by the Court of the reason, Mr Lithur said, ‘When I spoke to him before the last adjourned date, he said he was due for a follow-up minor surgery in the first week of April.’

Counsel also told the Court that, the first accused had ‘since had the surgery.’

While extending his client’s apology to the Court, Counsel said, his client ‘hopes to return to Ghana in the third week of May.’

Counsel explained that ‘the only reason he (Ofosu-Ampofo) is taking this much time after the surgery is to avoid post-surgery clotting.”

The Court said, ‘The matter has suffered adjournments due to the absence of the first accused,’

The Court said, ‘If the first accused is not around then
the second accused has to open his defence.’

The court also confirmed that it had ‘received some reports from doctors from the US indicating that the man (Ofosu-Ampofo) is receiving medical treatment in the US.’

The court said there would be nothing wrong if the second accused was heard in the absence of the first accused.

‘It’s been almost a year. In the absence of the first accused, we can hear the second accused,’ the judge said, adding that, ‘There is nothing wrong with it.’

He said, ‘If he comes, I will hear him,’ the court said, ‘Fortunately prosecution has closed its case, so there is nothing that will go against him.’

Last opportunity

Dr Abdul Aziz Bamba, counsel for Anthony Kwaku Boahen, (2nd Accused) pointed to the constitutional requirement that, a matter be heard in the presence of an accused.

‘My Lord, there is a constitutional requirement that the matter must be heard in the presence of the accused,’ Counsel told the Court.

‘We pray that the court indulges us one last time,’ he urged.

B
y Court

Prior to adjourning the case, Justice Asiedu said, ‘The matter has kept, in my view a little bit too long.’

He said, ‘I will adjourn it to May 30 at 9:30 with a caution that if he doesn’t show up I will hear the second accused.’

Background

Sometime in November 2023, lawyers of the former NDC Chairman led by Tony Lithur provided a letter indicating that their client was in the United States undergoing post-surgery complication treatment.

The content of the letter given to the court by the prosecution indicated that his condition is such that, he cannot travel for at least six months.

According to EIB Network’s Lega Affairs Correspondent Murtala Inusah, the prosecution, led by the Director of Public Prosecution, has closed its case after calling three witnesses.

Anthony Kwaku Boahen was present in court on Thursday, April 25, 2024, while the case is adjourned to May 30, 2024.

‘Apologise to all women over your insulting comments’ – Women group descends on NDC PC for Essikado-Ketan

A group calling itself the Concerned Women of Essikado-Ketan Constituency have called on the parliamentary candidate of the NDC for the area, Professor Grace Ayensu-Danquah, to render an unqualified apology to all women in Ghana over some comments she recently made.

The group, in a statement made available to GhanaWeb, said that the comments made by the NDC parliamentary candidate were “immature, infantile, and unwholesome, and it ruins the reputation of the Ghanaian woman.”

The group was reacting to some statements Prof. Grace Ayensu-Danquah made on Accra-based radio station, Asempa FM, while discussing political issues pertaining to the 24-hour economy policy proposal by John Dramani Mahama.

In a clip of her submission on the program, Prof. Ayensu-Danquah stated that “if you don’t understand it, then it is your brains that are not functioning properly because the eyes cannot see what the brain does not know.”

But the comment has infuriated the group, who have issued a statement to demand that the Membe
r of Parliament-hopeful retracts and apologise for making those assertions.

“It’s like Dr. Grace Ayensu wants to tell the people of Ghana, especially those in her constituency, that they don’t have the moral rights to query her on the supposed 24-hour economy mantra, or better still, she thinks all women should take their so-called 24-hour economy hook line and sinker? In fact, her demeanor and posture on set look very unfriendly. She seemed uncomfortable offering explanations to her own policy for which she believes in.

“Just yesterday, on Asempa Fm’s Okosii Sen, the NDC parliamentary candidate made another damning comment that anyone who does not understand their own 24-hour economy is insane and we see this as offensive and disrespectful to womanhood. Therefore, she must retract and offer an apology to women in general, especially those in Essikado-Ketan constituency, because she has disgraced us,” portions of the statement read.

The group further indicated that the actions of the National Democratic Co
ngress PC cast a slur on the Essikado-Ketan area, as well as on the integrity of their traditional chief.

They, therefore, urged her to simply tell Ghanaians what she can offer, rather than resorting to the use of insults in her attempt to explain herself and her policies. The Concerned Women of Essikado-Ketan Constituency is drawing the attention of the NDC parliamentary candidate in the constituency to quickly retract the comments she made on “Ekosii s3n” on Asempa fm and render an unqualified apology to the good people of Ghana and the Essikado-Ketan constituency.

We see her comments as immature, infantile, and unwholesome, and it ruins the reputation of the Ghanaian woman. Dr Grace must pay particular attention to her choice of words and bridle her tongue in public, and she should know how to accommodate opposing views in public discourse.

Moreover, she should have given respect to our revered paramountcy “Omanhene” Chief of Essikado Nana Kobina Nketsiah V, nonetheless, Dr Grace should know that, anywhere she sits, she represents the image of Essikado, but unfortunately, that isn’t the case;

She should tell Ghanaians what she can offer, especially in her constituency. Dr. Grace, respe
ctfully tell us what you can offer when given the opportunity, and she should not insult our intelligence.

This is not the first time she has done in public. An opportunity was given to her on Connect 97.1fm a Takoradi-based radio concerning what she can offer for women in the constituency, and this is what she said; I would reintroduce the “amonsee” ie. a re-washable pad used by our old women in time past for women in the constituency, and we appealed to her conscience to retract and apologized, but unfortunately, she did not.

We are giving her 24 hours to do the needful because it was her own so-called 24-hour economy which gave her that loose talk and after the 24 hours, we shall bounce back, and this time it will be haywire…

Mahama couldn’t have made a better choice than Prof Opoku-Agyemang – Kobby Mensah

Political strategist, Professor Kobby Mensah says opposition flagbearer, John Mahama, has made a better choice by choosing Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2024 election.

This comes on the back of the official outdooring of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer, John Mahama’s running mate, Professor Opoku-Agyemang at the UPSA on Wednesday.

Speaking to Starr News, the political strategist explained that the former Minister of Education has improved as compared to what Ghanaians witnessed in the 2020 elections.

‘I think that she was almost the same as in 2020 but she has changed clearly, the seriousness was that you could see a certain sense of urgency not only in her speech but also in her nonverbal. You could see the sense of justice through her words and her actions.

‘I think it will really energize the base, it gives a certain sense of hope and purpose and a clear sense of unity with the party.

“So certainly it is going to drive the party’s base (so) that th
ey will have a certain belief that they can win this election and go out there and campaign for the party. Her choice was the best that the former President could make,’ Professor Kobby Mensah stated.

He continued: ‘She is a very stable person, she is a very focused person very articulate, to say the least, and of course very professional with service.

“So you could feel that all these were actually coming into play. So certainly yes the former President couldn’t have actually made any better choice than that,’ he stressed.

‘When ladies cross the road’

Probably the biggest problem created by a typical Ghanaian fufu eater is when he goes to the restaurant to eat fufu. He buys the fufu and asks for ‘dry fish’ but wants the one inside soup. How come? Dry fish? How are you going to eat it with the fufu without soup? I just love my country k3k3!

It is the only country in the world where male goats do an environmental impact analysis behind a female goat before making an ‘entry’ decision. I don’t know how goats behave in any other country. You know why? I haven’t been to any other country before. Hahahahahahaha! Ghana sweet roff

This year is running very fast o, or I am the only one seeing it like that? We just celebrated Christmas and already April is coming to an end! Abeg, if you set some personal targets for yourself, do it now because time no dey o.

It’s weekend again! Let me enjoy myself small! This thing still amazes me o.

You are a very beautiful lady who wants to cross road to the other side. Cars are not stopping for you to cross. A man suddenly st
ops and beckons you to cross the road as he stops for you.

You think he is doing a favour? Na lie o! He is doing himself a favour as he watches you cross shaking things behind you and those in front announcing their presence. Don’t thank us. We have finished thanking ourselves by the fact that you even accepted to cross the road when we stop for you. Keep crossing roads o, beautiful ladies. We don’t mind if we are late for work.

Last week when I wrote about dogs not having family planning thoughts, some of you called me to say, it is true. Some called to challenge me that how did I know. In fact, I love those reprimands because it is true. Dogs don’t care o.

You see when they want to mate, they look for where a lot of people are gathered and start doing it. They don’t mind just because they want to avoid speculations. They do so for everybody to see so that when you accuse them of making some other dogs pregnant, they accept it immediately without any argument. After all, the accusers were present and saw
everything happening live.

Zebra crossing is not respected in this our part of the world. I wonder why the authorities waste paint on this venture. Drivers or motorists don’t regard zebra crossing, pedestrians will want to cross from a point where there is no zebra crossing.

I recently spoke tough to a young man why he decided to cross the road from where the zebra crossing was not but rather the other plain part of the road. His response was cheeky. He asked me back and in anger whether I was a zebra. Is it ignorance or we just enjoy doing the wrong thing?

A friend was charged in an abrokyire country recently and given a ticket as fine for crossing the road where there was no zebra crossing. Meanwhile, the zebra crossing was right next to where he was crossing o. the police immediately approached him and guess his charge: lack of common s**se! Period. He paid o.

Try that in Ghana and some civil society and human rights organisations will bash you for doing the ‘wrong’ thing because for them ‘human rights
is the promotion of doing the wrong thing’. I just don’t understand them. As for some of these human rights people er, they cause more social problems than they solve them.

The reason I get upset sometimes when some media houses keep wasting airtime to interview some of them on things that require some disciplinary action on recalcitrant human beings some of whom may want to wear their right shoe on the left and the left on the right and think they are the best people in town!

Some human rights organisations? Hmmm! Some of them are the reason some dogs frown at us when some cases are sent to tennis court because even they animals will not do some of the things human beings do and human rights people justify in the name of freedom. Some of them often count the teeth with the tongue; you can never get it correct. Let the world be led by how the Almighty God has planned it and purposed it. God loves everyone but I don’t think he would encourage human beings doing the wrong things. No!

According to a quote att
ributed to Richard Gordon in the book ‘Quotable Quotes for Quoters’ authored by Aubrey Malone, ‘over-eating is the most worthy of sins. It neither breaks up marriages nor causes accidents’.

Please note, not ‘overheating’ o. That one can cause accidents though over-eating itself can cause so many medical conditions that are worse than accidents! Don’t think about it; just over-eat and see how much pressure you will be putting on your internal organs especially the liver and kidneys! Any disease linked to the liver and kidneys especially due to reckless lifestyle often kills faster.

Continue to boil four eggs at a time and eat it in the night. Then for your breakfast eat 3 balls of kenkey with goat meat and more fish! You will live long wae! Life is short but can be shorter if one disregards certain simple principles.

The world is such a wicked place not because of snakes and lions o but because of me and you – we are all wicked one way or the other. Don’t ever assume that what you can never do to others, ot
hers cannot do to you! They will do it and even write re-sit on it.

I visited a new dentist on Wednesday to check if my ‘wisdom tooth’ has come because nowadays it looks like my wisdom has come paa. Everything I say is full of ‘wisdom’. Hahaaai!

My dentist at Asylum Down, you are a real professional wai. This guy searched and searched and searched my smelly mouth with some metallic tools and eventually found my wisdom tooth hiding in between my molars. Halleluya! Now I can think well well! Wisdom tooth has come o.

Since then I have become wiser than before and I am not happy about it. When you are too wise, you become too careful and life ‘won’t sweet you’ much. This Doctor worked on these my useless teeth and all the old fufu and akple pieces stuck in them in the past ten years were removed. I don’t know whether it is hereditary.

My late father lost all his teeth before he died and I remember how he used to pronounce the number ’44’ or the word ‘wele’! All you would hear is ‘weywey’! the most exciting wa
s when he wanted to call the word ‘beef’.

He calls it biwi and it took me a long time to understand what he meant by ‘biwi’ when he meant! As for the number 44, you can try it yourself. When I meet him in heaven some years to come and he has all the set of teeth intact, I will either not recognise him or just tell him he is at the wrong place.

My 85-year Mother, on the other hand, has all set of teeth intact. I think I copied my father. My set of teeth no good kraaaa. Can’t you see. That’s why I am careful when chewing sugar cane. Chaka chaka chaka! Basaaaa! Ahhh!

Have a nice weekend and remember copying the wicked ways of your enemy in revenge will not help you but your enemy! Continue to do what is right even if the wrongs are perpetrated against you. Keep your possession of a loving heart and let your detractor keep his wicked ways. God is watching! At the end of the day ‘killa baa gbo last show’!

Mahama is coming back because Akufo-Addo has failed – Ayariga

President Nana Akufo-Addo’s failure in office is what has made it possible for former President John Dramani Mahama to seek a comeback, the founder of the All People’s Congress, Hassan Ayariga, has said.

He told Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang in an interview on the Class Morning Show on Friday, April 26, 2024, that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had wasted the hope Ghanaians had in him before he was given the mandate.

‘People gave him so much hope, and when we were saying that he would not be the best candidate, Ghanaians didn’t believe us and gave President Nana Akufo-Addo the mandate,” he said.

‘Eight years down the lane, where are we as a country? Can we say that President Akufo-Addo has performed better than the former president? The answer is still no, even though I’m not supporting the former president,” Ayariga added.

In Hassan Ayariga’s view, Mahama has found it necessary to contest in the 2024 general elections because Akufo-Addo has been abysmal in handling the country.

In terms of inflation, the strength
of the Cedi, and other economic indicators, Ayariga said Akufo-Addo’s government cannot match the performance of John Dramani Mahama.
