Kumchacha revealed that he would choose Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, who is the founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), over Akua Donkor, the leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).

When questioned about his choice, Kumchacha cited Akua Donkor’s purported lack of vision as the reason behind his decision.

Kumchacha who doubles as the leader of the Kum People’s Party (KPP), reiterated his presidential ambition and affirmed his determination to contest as an independent candidate.

‘Akua Donkor has no vision, and I can’t work with her. If I were to choose to align with someone, it would be Osofo Kyiri Abosom. He’s my fri
end and brother,’ myjoyonline.com quoted him to have said in an interview on Joy Prime on April 20, 2024.

He continued: ‘I believe that when you contest something for the first time and you are unable to win, it is not the end of your life.

‘Former president Kufuor contested three (3) times before he became president; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo contested 3 times before he won as president; and the late president John Evans Atta-Mills contested 3 times before he became president. God hasn’t revealed to me how long it will take, but I’ll contest until I become president one day,’ he added.

Bragging about toilet facilities is cheap politics – Rachel Appoh blasts Bawumia

The former Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Rachel Appoh has jabbed the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his constant mentioning of toilet facilities as a major achievement of the government.

Speaking in an interview on Kingdom FM, Rachel Appoh observed that Dr Bawumia consistently reference the construction of toilet facilities as an accomplishment of the NPP government.

She criticized Bawumia, charging him to leave such things for Members of Parliament and chief executive of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

Rachel Appoh noted that Bawumia is engaging in what she describes as ‘toilet politics’ because he has no message for Ghanaians.

‘ During the era of John Mahama, projects like toilet facilities were left for the MMDCEs and MPs but under the Akufo-Addo government, they are touting the construction of toilet facilities as a major achievement.

‘Bawumia’s speeches are dominated by the construction of KVIPs etc. They haven’t done anything me
aningful to the country. They are only interested in lip service and promises,’ she said.

Rachel Appoh urged Ghanaians not to fall for the supposed propaganda by Bawumia as he is following the same script as Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

She claimed that President Akufo-Addo, during the campaign promised to transform the country, only for him to gain power and do the complete opposite.

Arguing that the lives of Ghanaians have been worse off under the Akufo-Addo, Rachel Appoh identified some programs of the government and questioned their effectiveness and impact on the lives of Ghanaians.

‘I warned Ghanaians about the promises of Akufo-Addo. I told them it was just a game plan to deceive Ghanaians. All these promises about 1-District-One-Factory were mere promises and nothing more.

‘Even the Free SHS they brag about, parents are paying huge monies to get their children through school. Akufo-Addo deceived Ghanaians and Bawumia is following the same path. The toilet facilities are for MPs and DCEs, not the
president or vice. He should leave that to the MPs. How can a vice president be campaigning on toilet facilities?’ she quizzed.

Institute of Solid State Physics to mark 50 years since invention of Bulgarian Copper Bromide Vapour Laser

The Institute of Solid State Physics (ISSP) will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the invention of the copper bromide vapour laser (CuBr laser) on April 24 at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).

The programme of the event will include presentations by the scientists involved in the creation of the prototype, on the application of the copper bromide vapour laser, on the development and prospects of laser technologies. There will also be an exhibition presenting both the entire cycle of physical research and development, as well as exhibits of lasers manufactured currently.

For 50 years now, the Bulgarian copper bromide vapour laser has been used in medicine, astronomy, the study of the atmosphere and the sea, said in a BTA interview the creator of the invention, Academician Nikola Sabotinov.

Sabotinov specialized in radiophysics and electronics at Sofia University and has worked in the field of quantum radiophysics, and more specifically in the physics of metal vapour lasers. He was the president of t
he Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from 2008 to 2012.

Sabotinov’s idea to create a low-temperature copper laser in Bulgaria was realized in 1974, when under his leadership at the Institute of Solid State Physics, a copper bromide vapour laser was put into operation, recognized as the invention of the year in 1979.

In order to improve its characteristics, a number of theoretical and experimental studies were conducted, and the effect of hydrogen was discovered. The CuBr laser has been patented in Bulgaria, France, USA, Great Britain, Germany, Japan and Australia. The obtained scientific results have been highly appreciated by the international scientific community and have found a place in world science and in university educational programmes, such as Oxford University in Great Britain and Ibaraki University in Japan, Sabotinov explained.

The CuBr laser began commercial development in Bulgaria. Today it is produced by the Bulgarian company Pulselight and by Norseld in Australia, and by Bison in the Republic
of Korea. It is used in medicine, in the precision material processing industry, in laser location and navigation, for laser displays, for seawater research, and for other research.

The CuBr laser is not only an example of good innovation practice, but is also a ray of hope, especially among young people, that ideas can become reality in Bulgaria, and inventions can be made at the level of highly developed in science and technology countries, noted ISSP at BAS.

Pro-Bawumia group denies statement warning Ken Agyapong over alleged support for Alan

President of Bawumia Must Win (BMW), a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, David Gyasi Boako, has dismissed a purported letter in which the group is warning the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong.

The statement in question, published on social media channels, called for Kennedy Agyapong to be reprimanded for his perceived support for Alan Kyerematen, an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections.

“I have seen the statement, and I was shocked about the contents, so I called my secretary, Sir Obama, to confirm if he had written anything of that nature. When I called him, he was surprised and asked for those behind such false information because this is the sixth time something of this nature had happened,’ he said in an interview on Oman FM on April 19, 2024.

The now-discredited statement accused Kennedy Agyapong of undermining the NPP by supporting the activities of Alan Kyerematen, who had resigned from the party to contest as an independent candidate.

The state
ment condemned Agyapong’s media outlets for broadcasting an event where Kyerematen and other political groups gathered to form an alliance, labelling it as a betrayal to the NPP and its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

It further called on the NPP National Executives to ensure that party resources were not used to promote Kyerematen’s activities and urged them to call Agyapong and others aligned with the Movement for Change to order.

However, Gyasi Boako denied the said information stating: “We want to plead with the public that we have no idea about the said letter and we haven’t written any letter, we are aware that Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong are living peacefully,’ he added.
