2024 Elections: NDC to elect flagbearer in May

The largest opposition party in the country, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set a date in May to hold an election to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

The date, May 6, is however subject to approval from the party’s Functional Executive Council (FEC).

The set date is in a proposed timetable tabled before FEC at a meeting held on Thursday, January 5.

The proposal according to information gathered wishes for the NDC to open nominations next month, from Monday, February 22 to Wednesday, February 24.

All aspirants will be given between Monday, March 20 and Wednesday, March 22 to file their forms to confirm their interest in the flagbearer race.

While the forms will be sold for GHS30,000, aspirants will need GHS500,000 to file their nomination.

During the process, aspirants will be vetted in two days from Monday, March 27 to Wednesday, March 29, before an official announcement on the qualified aspirants.

Meanwhile, any disqualified aspirants who would wish to challenge the disqualification will have up to Thursday, April 6 to appeal the decisions of the vetting committee.

After a month of intensive campaigning by qualified aspirants, the NDC will then proceed to the polls to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

Although nominations are yet to be opened, ex-president John Dramani Mahama and former Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor have been tagged as strong candidates for the top party position.
