Ernest Nuamah marks Black Stars debut as Ghana draw with Madagascar in AFCON qualifier

Nineteen-year-old winger Ernest Nuamah made his Black Stars debut when Ghana played out a pulsating 0-0 draw with Madagascar in the 2023 AFCON qualifier on Sunday, June 17, 2023.

Nuamah, who plays for Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga, made an instant impact when he replaced Kamaladeen Sulemana in the 61st minute at the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium in Antananarivo.

With his quick feet, he improved the attacking prowess of Ghana but could not inspire them to a much-needed win on away soil.

He completed six dribbles in the 30 minutes he spent on the field.

However, Ghana’s 2023 AFCON ticket has been delayed following the draw in Madagascar but still maintains the top spot with nine points from five games.

Ghana will need a win in their next AFCON qualifier against Central African Republic in September to qualify for the AFCON in Ivory Coast from Saturday, January 13-Saturday, February 11, 2024.

Kwame Yogot calls out Bawumia for using his music for campaign without his consent

Ghanaian musician, Kwame Yogot, has called out Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for allegedly using his music for political campaigns without his permission.

According to him, the vice president has adopted his hit song, “Bibi be so” which is played for him at every campaign event he attends.

Speaking in a viral video shared by One Ghana TV, on Saturday, June 18, 2023, Kwame Yogot warned Bawumia and his campaign team to stop using his music.

“How is it possible that someone would just pick your music and be using it for campaign without the artist’s knowledge?

“Let’s put aside the cost I incurred to record the music and the struggles, do you know what is going to happen to me because you are using my music to campaign? I don’t support the NDC neither do I support NPP,” he said in Twi.

Kwame Yorgot also explained that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot be using his music because he is the grandson of the ousted Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, whom he said they have been disgracing.

“Joe Quayson is my grandfather… see what you people in the NPP are doing to him. He won the elections hands down but you people took him to court and now has to be going to court always.

“Now you are using his grandson’s music for your campaign… don’t use my music for your campaign. The man that you have been disgracing is my grandfather and you are using my music for campaign. Stop using my music for campaign,” he added.

Men need peace of mind in relationships – Kwabena Kwabena praises Dr. Louisa, Tracey for being supportive spouses

Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena strongly believes that for a man to function effectively, all he needs from a woman is peace of mind.

However, he claimed that many women tend to give their partners troubles, leaving the men with no choice but to abandon them, even if they have children together.

Kwabena Kwabena expressed these views during an interview on Hitz FM, discussing Father’s Day, which falls on June 18, 2023.

He took the opportunity to commend Dr. Louisa Satekla, the wife of Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, and Tracey Sarkodie, the wife of rapper Sarkodie, for providing their husbands with the necessary peace of mind to thrive.

“I want to express my gratitude to Dr. Louisa and Tracey for giving Stonebwoy and Sarkodie the peace of mind to function effectively. These two women are the reasons why Stonebwoy and Sarkodie are doing so well,” he stated.

Kwabena Kwabena also advised women to refrain from poisoning their children’s minds with negative thoughts about their fathers when they face issues in their relationships.

“Often, it is women who say all sorts of things to their children when the relationship with their partners takes a downturn. I am a living testament to such a situation. I never got along with my dad until I was an adult, but now I understand him.

“I didn’t know he was this amazing until I grew up, probably because of the negative things I heard about him when I was younger.

“We can now sit together, share a glass of wine, and have a good conversation. But that never happened when I was young. It’s time for women to stop doing that to their children and men as well,” he added.

Lack of culture of maintenance – The worst in the Nana Addo led NPP government

Lack of maintenance of facilities belonging to the state has seriously affected successive governments in Ghana. The current NPP government’s approach in dealing with this situation is worst. I cannot treat every aspect of governance in a single topic. I have, therefore, been constrained to look at some of the roads the NPP inherited from John Mahama (NDC), which are now in a very deplorable state as a result of lack of maintenance.

Although during the John Mahama led NDC government there was economic hardship in the country, infrastructural developments such as roads, schools, hospitals and many other projects were massive. In fact, it was around that time the NPP asked the NDC if Ghanaians would eat roads, and vice president, Dr. Bawumia, also delivered one of his famous campaign messages, “Shoeshine boys are suffering and Kayayei are suffering, ….”

Former president, John Mahama and his lieutenants, had convinced some of us to believe that the projects they were undertaking would transform the economy, which could ultimately create more jobs to ease the burden on our living conditions. Unfortunately, in the 2016 general elections, the NDC government was truncated because John Mahama did not win his second term.

Before that election, a negative picture was painted about Nana Akufo Addo that he was not going to be a good president. Some of us prayed that he should not win the election because we were afraid that should he win, he would worsen the already impoverished economy then. However, Nana eventually won.

We came to terms with his victory and decided that since he had won we should assist him otherwise if he fails, it will seriously affect us economically.

So far, we have not seen improvements in many facets of the economy as NPP propagandists would like us to believe. For instance, let us look at the road sector. Out of sheer negligence, the government allows four roads they inherited to deteriorate. They then build one new road and start jubilating that they have made an achievement.

The road in my area was completed and handed over to Nana Addo in 2017, but it is now out of shape due to lack of maintenance. The road stretches from the Tuba junction to the main Tuba township, linking Kakraba and Adade, and through Winger and other townships it joins the Liberia camp road on the Kasoa/Winneba highway. There are many potholes on this road, especially between Kakraba and the Tuba junction.

The Tuba township has two beautiful roundabouts which are not very far away from each other. It is rare to see two roundabouts in a short distance away from each other in the country. These roundabouts are now eyesores, because of the same pothole problems. The road around the Montessori school which leads to the Tuba junction is the most affected.

The gutters alongside the road are completely filled with sand, as a result of the rainwater collecting sand from the nearby hill top. The road over there easily gets flooded when it rains, thus washing away a great chunk of the bitumen used in the road construction.

Now, from the Tuba junction to the toll booth area heading towards the stretch opposite the hill top where Asamoah Gyan’s mansion is located is also a flood prone area. Moving away from there to the SCC traffic lights at the West Hills, there is a big gutter in front of a block factory adjacent the traffic lights which has diverted its course.

The water from the gutter is flowing direct on the main road for a very long time now. From there going to the old barrier, is another serious flood spot on the road facing the Atala iron rods company building.

It is so pathetic to notice that all these bad roads have been neglected, but the moment there are by-elections in these areas the roads could be fixed as soon as possible. Besides, the roads could be rehabilitated next year to attract votes for the NPP in the 2024 general elections.

The fact speaks for itself! Everyone can check on these roads to ascertain the truth. Similar defects on our roads are all over the country. Anyone can attest to this assertion by simply looking at the bad roads in their communities.

School Feeding caterers to receive training to spend less on cooking

Madam Gertrude Quashigah, National Coordinator, Ghana School Feeding Programme, says her Secretariat will soon train caterers to spend less on cooking nutritional foods for school children.

She said the training would help them to rake in profits by cutting down on cost and food wastage in their pantries.

Madam Quashigah who was addressing a day’s workshop on the “Dissemination of Landscape Analysis Report on Rice Fortification,” stressed that this would help them to put to good and sufficient use the GHS1.00 per child they received.

This workshop shared the findings of a comprehensive report on rice fortification and discussed strategies to enhance the nutritional value of school meals through rice fortification.

The dissemination workshop is the commencement of a two-and-a-half-year project by the World Food Programme, with funding support from the Rockefeller Foundation and Royal DSM, to improve the nutritional needs of school children through the Ghana School Feeding Programme.

The project seeks to improve the nutritional value of rice for the school children to meet their nutritional needs, since rice was a staple.

Madam Quashigah said, though the amount they received needed to be increased, they could still cook nutritious foods for the school children with it.

She said they had recently agreed on a proposed increment from GH?1.00 they received per child head to GH?1.20 pesewas, saying they were still engaging the Finance Ministry on further increment.

She added that such trainings would be certificated through which they would be able to sort and assess their work.

Madam Patience Asiedu, Head of Nutrition, World Food Programme (WFP) Accra, said the project supported the Government’s efforts to boost local production of rice.

The capacity of 5,000 small holder farmers and 10 rice millers will be enhanced to support local rice production for the School Feeding Programme, she said.

She said under the project, caterers and cooks would be trained to cook nutritional foods for the school children.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme as an intervention by the Government of Ghana, started in 2005 to provide food to children in public basic schools from kindergarten to primary six.

The Programme aims to increase school enrolment, attendance and retention, reduce short-term hunger and malnutrition and boost domestic food production.

The Programme has 3,801,491 beneficiary pupils, 34, 350 cooks and caterers and covers 10,832 public basic schools nationwide.
