Haikenen? Aineken? Heineken®? Can you spot the difference?
No, this isn’t a typo… Heineken is misspelt on the truck exteriors to reflect the brand’s 150th anniversary campaign, which celebrates all of its common spelling mistakes and colloquial nicknames globally.

Heineken

AMSTERDAM, June 13, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Heineken®, one of the world’s most recognised beer brands, is today marking its 150th anniversary with an unconventional celebration of the many ways the brand has been nicknamed, misspelled or mis-served over the years, all to showcase how good times and sparking true connections over a beer are, in the end, what matters most.

Freddy Heineken’s famous words “I don’t sell beer, I sell gezelligheid” have never rung so true. “Gezelligheid” translated is that feeling of good times, something that has been at the heart of the Heineken® brand for the last 150 years. To celebrate this milestone anniversary, Heineken® is putting good times front and centre of its global birthday festivities.

Of course, good times have changed over the 150 years of Heineken®’s existence and will continue to do so, but their importance in people’s lives have not. Recognising this and as part of the anniversary celebration, the Heineken® brand has worked with academics to better understand the ingredients that are needed to deliver that feeling of “good times” in the modern day; a surprisingly under-studied human need.

Marking a turning point in the brand’s history, Heineken® has decided to evolve the way it measures success – focusing not just on the volume of beer it sells but also the good times it delivers for its customers in over 190 countries.

To do this, Heineken® has collaborated with behavioural scientist Dr Chris Brauer, Goldsmiths, University of London, to create the ‘Good Times Index’, a new brand measurement model which will score the brand’s contribution to creating the perfect conditions for good times. Through human behavioural research, the index has identified five core conditions that people universally need to experience good times, including open-mindedness, inclusivity, and human connection:

Heineken® is marking its 150th Anniversary with an unconventional celebration that prioritises good times over getting it right.

With the Good Times Index in place, Heineken® is staying true to its vision by becoming the first beer brand to officially have “delivering good times” as part of the way it measures its annual performance – alongside sales and other brand tracking metrics.

Bram Westenbrink, Global Head, Heineken® Brand, said: “Brewing good times has been in our DNA for 150 years. That is why we are evolving our brand metrics to show that creating good times is equally as important as the beer we produce. By better understanding the conditions behind good times in today’s world, we can continue to create experiences for all our global customers that promote that feeling of gezelligheid – whether that is through the messages in our advertising, our sponsorships and events or of course our range of products including our non-alcoholic Heineken® 0.0 or our more modern flavoured Heineken® Silver. It is our goal that we will continue to deliver good times, one way or another, for the next 150 years and beyond.”

Dr Chris Brauer, Director of Innovation at Goldsmiths, University of London, said: “When we came to this project, we recognised that the understanding of what makes a good time, required a new and fresher perspective. Together with Heineken®, we have worked to better understand the multiple dimensions that make up that feeling of “Good Times”, and the ways in which it is experienced today. Good times are not just one thing or another, they are a multitude of different and subjective feelings, experiences, wants and needs that help generate a sensation and fulfil higher order needs. There has never been a more important time or opportunity to measure the role and prevalence of good times in our lives, so I’m excited to see a brand like Heineken® take serious steps to ensure that they are better understanding and enabling that feeling of “gezelligheid”.”

RESEARCH UNDERSTANDING ‘GOOD TIMES’ AROUND THE WORLD

Heineken’s® inaugural results from the Good Times Index comes at an important moment socially around the world, as 87% of consumers believe it is more important now than ever for them to have a good time. But one thing that is consistent, is that good times are best enjoyed together.

Additional consumer research from Heineken® shows that 82% care more about being with friends than if their night goes to plan. Surprisingly, 75% of respondents believe that the people you watch a sport match with is more important than if your team wins.

Despite the fact 87% of respondents believe opportunities to connect in person with loved ones have become even more important since the pandemic, over half (61%) agreed that given the current economic climate, they would be more likely to work overtime and sacrifice social moments with friends and family.

Nevertheless, many remain open-minded about good times ahead, with the vast majority (88%) agreeing their best memories come from unexpected moments. This open-mindedness follows through into the ways we socialise, as 78% agree it is important to socialise with people that don’t always share the same views as them – a sentiment most strongly held in Brazil (84%) and the UK (81%).

HEINEKEN® ACTIVITY CELEBRATING H150

To help bring the brand’s commitment to good times to life, the anniversary’s tongue-in-cheek ATL campaign takes viewers on a journey around the globe to embrace all the different ways people adapt and enjoy social moments and memories with Heineken® – ranging from an incorrectly spelt tattoo of the logo to a Heineken® Original being served with a lime, straw and ice. The light-hearted video sees the brewer celebrate the good times it provides – even if the way consumers spell or enjoy it isn’t 100% correct or as originally intended.

To further poke fun at itself, Heineken® will replace its logo with a number of alternative spellings it has seen over the years, appearing across all of Heineken’s® social media accounts and website pages, as well as on several new electric lorries.

US govt has raised concerns about operations of the National Cathedral of Ghana – Ablakwa alleges

The Member of Parliament of North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has alleged the Intervene Revenue Service (IRS) of the government of the United States (US) raised concerns about the operation of the National Cathedral of Ghana.

According to him, the tax exemption given to the National Cathedral of Ghana and Bible Museum Foundation, Inc, the subsidiary of the National Cathedral of Ghana in the US, is likely to be cancelled because of the activities of its leaders.

In a series of tweets shared on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the MP alleged that leaders of the cathedral in the US have been engaging in irregularities which have now been noticed by the US government.

“Nobody knows how much has been raised, the banks being used, signatories to the bank accounts and how the funds raised are disbursed, particularly as the cathedral contractor, RIBADE JV has abandoned site for over a year for lack of payment.

“The US cabal who registered the “National Cathedral of Ghana and Bible Museum Foundation, Inc” without a single clergy representation has never accounted to the Ghanaian people, neither to the Parliament of Ghana.

“As previously demonstrated, they have in an illegal conduct, not filed a Form 990 report with the IRS of the USA since 2021 which has triggered genuine concerns that per US Federal law, their tax-exempt status would be revoked any moment from now,” parts of the tweet read.

The MP said that operations of the cathedral are continuing in the US despite an order for works on it to cease for an independent audit of its accounts.

“Revered clergymen, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba would be really upset to discover that five months after their explosive, no holds barred memo to the Board of Trustees of the “National” Cathedral demanding that ‘ALL CURRENT ACTIVITIES ADVANCING THE CONSTRUCTION OF GHANA’S NATIONAL CATHEDRAL SHALL BE DEFERRED until an independent audit’.

“… the US cabal who operate as law unto themselves have blatantly defied the respected trustees and are still actively receiving cash donations,” it added.

UNDP congratulates Ghana’s new CJ, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ghana extends its warmest congratulations to Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo on her swearing-in as the Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana by the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“On behalf of UNDP, I congratulate Her Ladyship Justice Torkornoo on this great feat. At UNDP, we believe that her appointment is not only a testament to her personal achievements but also a reflection of Ghana’s commitment to advancing gender equality, rule of law, and good governance”, noted Angela Lusigi, UNDP Resident Representative in Ghana.

Prior to her nomination, vetting and approval by Parliament, and swearing in as the Chief Justice of Ghana, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo was a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana and the Supervising Judge of the Commercial Courts in Ghana. She is the third female Chief Justice in the history of Ghana after Her Ladyship Georgina Theodora Wood (2007-2017) and Her Ladyship Sophia A. B. Akuffo (2017- 2020).

The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 on gender equality calls for women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic, and public life.

As the UN lead development agency, UNDP currently works in two interrelated programme areas in Ghana, contributing to the UN system’s cooperation framework to support Ghana’s efforts to advance sustainable development. These programmes are seeking to promote sustainable, resilient, and inclusive growth and structural transformation, as well as accountable, inclusive, and responsive governance and social cohesion.

Regarding its governance programme, UNDP supports constitutional, electoral, and legal reforms that promote inclusive and transparent governance processes. It is in relation to this that the UNDP Regional Director for Africa, Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa, during her last country visit to Ghana, engaged her Ladyship Justice Torkornoo along with other high-level women leaders to exchange ideas on advancing women’s leadership in public and private spaces in Ghana.

“I believe that the appointment of Her Ladyship Justice Torkornoo to the fourth highest position in Ghana will serve as an inspiration to many aspiring young women jurists and all women aspiring for leadership positions”, added Ms. Lusigi.

Her Ladyship Justice Torkornoo has previously held several leadership positions in the judiciary. These include serving as Vice-chair of the E-Justice Steering/Oversight Committee, Vice-chair of the Internship and Clerkship Programme for the Judiciary, and as a Supervising Judge of the Commercial Division of the High Court.

She has also made significant contributions to legal knowledge and her writing includes several articles on the tension between interest rates and debt sustainability, other commercial law subjects, judicial ethics and leadership, among others. She is the fifteenth Chief Justice of Ghana.

Total madness! – Felix Kwakye Ofosu reacts to suit against Mahama

A former Deputy Minister of Information, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has berated the New Patriotic Party for what he says are attempts to bar Former President, John Dramani Mahama from contesting in the 2024 elections.

According to him, the ruling party is hiding behind a citizen to sue John Dramani Mahama and prevent him from seeking a second coming as the president of Ghana.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, Felix Kwakye Ofosu wrote that it is absurd, the suit seeking to among other things, get the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer to be disqualified.

“Madness has finally beset the NPP so they want JM barred by court from contesting the 2024 elections. Total madness!” he wrote.

A Ghanaian by the name Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie is suing John Dramani Mahama to prohibit him from contesting as the flagbearer of a political party or the presidency in the future.

According to the plaintiff, Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, in a suit, the 1992 Constitution through Article 66 (1) of the 1992 Constitution indicates that a person seeking a second presidential term must be a sitting president and in the case of former President Mahama, he is only seeking to recontest after being out of office for about 8 years.

Madness has finally beset the NPP so they want JM barred by court from contesting the 2024 elections.

Total madness!

Mr. Agyei Kuranchie is also seeking that the Supreme Court directs the Speaker of Parliament to invoke and operationalise Article 68 (2) of the 1992 Constitution which indicates that;

Why Hilda lost 7 hours from 100-hour-kitchen stint

Guinness World Record has revealed reason for not acknowledging Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, aka Hilda Baci’s 100-hour-kitchen stint.

One can recall the record body had officially recognized Hilda as the winner of the world’s longest cooking marathon.

She was however awarded the Guinness World Record for the highest cooking marathon (individual) with 93 hours and 11 minutes as against the widely circulated 100-hour record.

On reason for its decision, the record body said it deducted seven hours from her record because “she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.”

Meanwhile, congratulations and well wishes have flooded social media with countless celebrities reacting to the development.

We want to build a fearsome attack for Africa – Medeama PRO Patrick Akoto

Medeama spokesperson, Patrick Akoto has assured an improvement in the attack of the club ahead of the CAF Champions League.

The Mauve and Yellow will represent Ghana in the next season’s Africa campaign after emerging as winners in the just-ended Ghana Premier League campaign.

Medeama returns to Africa for the first time since 2016, where they reached the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

According to Akoto, his outfit intends to build a fearsome attacking threat and solidify the defense before the start of the Africa campaign.

“Clearly there is more room for improvement and we intend to beef up the squad. We are looking at making strategic signings to aid our campaign,” Akoto told the local media

“We have to look at the various department and see where we need to augment. We want to build a fearsome attacking threat and also solidify the defence as well.

“Processes to get some of our intended targets are well underway and so our fans will be duly informed on progress made.

“The Africa terrain requires experience and so we’re leaving no stone unturned in our quest to make a significant impact.”
