Ghana coach Chris Hughton explains omission of local players in Black Stars call-ups

Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has offered an explanation for his decision to exclude local players from his recent call-ups since assuming the role.

Despite attending matches in the Ghana Premier League, Hughton has not included any local players in the two squads he has named for the AFCON Qualifiers.

This has raised questions, particularly with the absence of some key players due to injuries.

In a video posted on BKB TV on YouTube, Hughton emphasized his desire to maintain a balance and consistent approach within the current squad as the primary reason for his decision. However, he also expressed his openness to considering local players in the future.

During his time in Ghana, Hughton has observed most of the teams and is endeavoring to gain a comprehensive understanding of the league, its level, and the standout players.

He believes it is important to assess the overall picture rather than solely focusing on individual players.

“In the period of time I’ve been around, I’ve seen most of the teams. Probably at this stage, it’s about getting a feel for the league,” Hughton expressed. “The level of the league, the better players. Trying to get the whole picture as opposed to just some individuals. In this process when we come up with the individual players, the balance is always what I have.”

“At this moment, we’re trying to find the right balance of keeping the consistency of what we’ve had. We, of course, have a lot of players playing in Europe, and there are also a lot of players in Europe who haven’t played. So, it’s just for me to try and get this balance,” Hughton said.

The upcoming match for the Black Stars against Madagascar on June 18, 2023, assumes great significance as they aim to secure qualification for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Cote D’Ivoire next year.

2022/23 Ghana Premier League Week 34: All you need to know ahead of today’s coronation

The 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season is coming to an end today, Sunday, June 18, with a Champion set to be crowned at the end of the games.

The Ghanaian top-flight league has been very competitive this season. After 33 games played by all the 18 participating clubs, we are yet to know the winner.

To protect the integrity of the game, all games this weekend will be played simultaneously.

Ahead of the games this afternoon, Medeama SC are the favorites to lift the league title. The team from Tarkwa sits top of the league standings with a three-point advantage over the team in second, Bechem United.

The league leaders are playing at home today and will host Tamale City FC.

For a team nicknamed Yellow and Mauve, Medeama SC needs just a single point to be crowned Champions of the Ghana Premier League.

The team in second, Bechem United have a big task at hand later this afternoon. The Hunters in a must-win game faces Aduana Stars away from home today.

Whatever be the case, either Medeama SC or Bechem United will be crowned champion of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League this season.

The shocker heading into the final round of games in the league is that giants Hearts of Oak could be relegated.

The Phobians must beat Berekum Chelsea at all costs to guarantee their safety in the Ghanaian top-flight league.

Meanwhile, the likes of Great Olympics, Tamale City and King Faisal who are closest to relegation are hoping to win their games to also avoid the drop.

All nine games today will kick off at 15:00gmt.

Medeama SC players offered free sex if they emerge as 2022/23 Ghana Premier League champions

Medeama SC players have been offered a lifetime opportunity to moan and enjoy in bed if they are able to emerge as the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League champions this weekend.

The Yellow Mavue will host Tamale City in their final game of the season at Akoon Park on Sunday with kick-off scheduled at 15:00GMT.

A chairperson person for the Tarkwa Commercial Sex Workers speaking to Ghanasoccernet.com said, “All players and staff will have free sex and supporters will have reduced prices.”

Medeama are top of the league table with 57 points and need to avoid a defeat to be crowned Champions while Tamale City are fighting to stay in the topflight.

The Tamale-based side needs to avoid defeat and hope Great Olympics drop points against Nsoatreman to stay up.

For both Medeama and Tamale City, this promises to be a dramatic finish to a reverting campaign but the reward for the Miners is both in cash and kind.
