J.B. Danquah: I found six stabbed wounds on late MP’s body—Pathologist

Accra,- Dr Lawrence Edusei, a pathologist at the Police Hospital, says the body of late J. B. Danquah Adu, former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, had six stabbed wounds.

Answering questions under cross-examination administered by Mr. Yaw Dankwah, counsel for two accused persons – Daniel Asiedu, aka “Sexy Dondon” and Vincent Bossu, Dr Edusei said the several stabs were done with some energy to cause injuries on the body of the MP.

The Pathologist, who had conducted postmortem on over 1,000 bodies, said he could not tell the length of the body of the late MP, saying:

“I did not measure the length of the body. The six feet is your own assumption unless you have facts to support it.”

Dr Edusei said the postmortem was conducted on February 15, 2016, with an Autopsy Assistant, a clerk, and a team of investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department.

The witness said averagely, depending on the nature or type of postmortem, it took him between an hour and an hour and half to put together a postmortem report.

In the case of the late legislature, Dr Edusei told the court that it took him two hours to prepare the autopsy report.

The report was presented on February 6, 2018.

“After the postmortem, I typed my own report on my own PC,” the witness told the court.

When asked what accounted for the delay in producing the postmortem report, he said he accessed the report from the Police Hospital in 2018.

“In 2016 I was at a conference in Germany, thieves broke into my house and packed everything in my house. Because we do have the same information at the Police Hospital, I accessed it in 2018,” he explained.

Hearing continues February 1.

Daniel Asiedu, aka “Sexy Dondon” and Vincent Bossu, aka “Junior Agogo” are being held for various alleged roles in the murder of Mr. Adu at his residence at Shaishie, near East Legon, on February 9, 2016.

Aseidu and Bossu have jointly been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

Asiedu is additionally being held on the charge of robbery and murder.

The accused persons have denied the charges and remanded into lawful custody by an Accra High Court.

According to one of the companies, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, measures and logistics were far in place to spearhead the long-awaited project that aims to encourage residents, particularly in the national capital to clean their immediate surroundings and environs.

Zoomlion is teaming up with a Turkish company to provide transfer stations in all the 29 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs) for easy transportation and recycling of the waste.

Speaking to the media, the Executive Chairman of Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), Dr. Joseph-Siaw Agyepong, commended the Greater Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey, for his bold step and leadership, ensures the national capital is clean and safe for residents.

To ensure the sustainability of the project, he said his outfit (Zoomlion) will be providing logistics and personnel for the clean your frontage initiative.

He went on to add that the first four transfer sites were ready to commence work as the enforcement of the initiative kicks off in the Greater Accra Region.

“Designs have been done, the equipment has been imported, and currently, we are looking at eight sites but four are ready,” he disclosed.

According to him, transfer solid waste stations will be in Mallam, Madina, Ashaiman, and Weija to support the Achimota and Accra solid waste sites.

The urgency of these solid sites, he explained, was to help in the collection of the waste from the project, adding that these transfer sites were well designed to handle any pressure.

Further, Dr Siaw Agyepong disclosed that 2000 brand new tricycles designed for Accra provided with containers as well as 60 brand new trucks to support and sustain the initiative were ready.

“We are going to see how to position ourselves strategically to render efficient services to the people of Ghana,” he stated.

The executive chairman of JGC made this known at a ceremony to embark on sensitization and education in the Greater Accra Region at Independence Square in Accra on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

The day was set aside by the GARCC to engage citizens in the region on the need to support the Operation Clean Your Frontage agenda in keeping Greater Accra clean and safe.

Early on addressing a parade of security personnel, national service personnel, and staff of the 29 MMDAs in the region, Hon Quartey indicated that the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ project was ‘not for Henry Quartey’ but for every citizen residing in the region.

‘Operation Clean Your Frontage,’ he further stressed, should not be seen as political machinery to deprive people of their daily bread but to bring about sanity and a clean environment, hence the safety and wellbeing of people in the region.

He, therefore, charged residents in the region to own it, participate and ensure its sustainability.

Dubai, he noted, has become a destination for many tourists because of systems working and citizens abiding by laid down laws, stressing that “Ghana can become the Dubai you want to travel to when citizens abide by the laws and regulations laid down by city authorities.”

Touching on the role of national service personnel in the initiative, Mr. Quartey made it clear that they were on board to support the MMDAs to sensitize and educate the people on the importance of supporting the project.

He further said, 1,200 out of the 3,500 people recruited were currently at training and expected to pass out in March this year, to serve as a task force to ensure the success of the project.

Black Stars: Charles Taylor slams Richard Kingston for recommending Jojo Wollacott

Charles Taylor Asampong, a former Ghana Premier League great has taken a swipe at Richard Kingson, who is the goalkeeper’s trainer for the Black Stars, insisting he must be ashamed for recommending Jojo Wollacott ahead of Ghana Premier League goalkeepers.

Wollacott, who plays in the fourth tier in England was surprisingly a call up by CK Akonnor. He has since become the first choice in the absence of Richard Ofori.

However, Taylor, speaking out of frustration Olele has nurtured several goalies in the Ghana Premier League yet he was unable to recommend any to be in post for the Black Stars at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

“We should be disappointed in Olele because he is responsible for the training of the majority of Ghanaian goalkeepers at his home, Taylor said in an interview on Angel TV.

“He trained Ayi, Alawa, the Premier Division keepers as well as Fatawu, he is the one who trained them. So he wants to tell me none of the goalkeepers he trained was good to be in the Black Stars,” the ex-Black Stars player said.

Taylor lamented that the inability of coaches to have faith in home-based players is what has resulted in most players not being able to improve on their performance.

“I always say that we the Ghanaian coaches are the ones who show acts of wickedness to our players. If he continues like this, we will destroy football in this country because the keepers we have here are the ones supposed to be at the AFCON. Because we don’t have confidence in them, we always want foreign keepers and they will always disgrace us and leave,” he added.

Bawku conflict: lay down arms, give peace a chance—Bawku Baba

Bawku (U/E),– Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, Paramount Chief of the Kasaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region has urged factions involved in the Bawku Chieftaincy conflict to lay down their arms and give peace a chance.

“I urge you as chiefs to advise all your people to abide by the regulations put in place by the security apparatus to be able to control the current violence. This involves the observance of the curfew and the ban on motorcycle riding by all persons”, he said.

Zugraan Naba Azoka II made the call in Bawku, at a meeting with members of the Kasaug Traditional Council on his meeting with President Akufo-Addo regarding the reoccurrence of the Chieftaincy conflict in the area.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo confirmed the government’s White Paper issued by the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs confirming him (Zugraan Naba Azoka II) as the lawful Paramount Chief of the area and there was the need for all parties to respect the decision.

“In summary, the President verbally confirmed the instructions that were given to the Minister of Chieftaincy to issue a White Paper on the Bawku Chieftaincy issue and assured me that I am the lawful Bawku-Naba and that any attempt to enskin another person as such would be an illegality and that he will not tolerate such a situation,” he stressed.

While thanking the government for deploying adequate security personnel to maintain law and order, He appealed to all Traditional rulers and their people to assist the security agencies to combat crime by reporting suspected characters to the security agencies “as the Traditional Area borders two African countries, thus, Burkina Faso and Togo.

“I wish to express my condolence to all families who lost their relatives in the unnecessary violence in Bawku and its environs.”

Since November 2021, the Bawku Municipality and its environs has experienced violent chieftaincy disputes resulting in the killing and injuring of many people.

The conflict started as a result of disagreement over the performance of the funeral of a certain chief who died more than 41 years ago, which would pave way for the enskinment of another chief with claims of Bawku not having an Overlord.

The Ministry of the Interior earlier imposed a curfew in the area to restrict movement especially in the night as part of measures to deal with the insecurity, but the violence continued.

The situation compelled the Upper East Regional Security Council to also place a ban on wearing of smocks and pillion riding on motor bikes by males within the area.

Also, government, through the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, in an earlier statement noted that the Chieftaincy disagreement was settled by the Supreme Court in 2003 and urged all parties to respect the ruling.

More than 40 people have been killed so far with several others injured since the reoccurrence of the impasse in November, 2021.
