New Bordeaux signing, Gideon Mensah has been asked to self-isolate for a minimum of seven days after travelling with the Black Stars to play South Africa in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Ghanaian international was part of the Black Stars squad that played in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.
Mensah will now have to quarantine for 7 to 10 days due to the travelling restrictions in France concerning people who arrive in the country after visiting South Africa.
He is expected to miss Bordeaux’s game against Lens on Sunday, in the French Ligue 1.
With South Africa in France and UK’s COVID-19 red list countries, all of Ghana’s England-based players did not travel for the game following the 1-0 win against Ethiopia in Accra, with other clubs including Ligue 1 side Rennes, recalling their winger Kamaldeen Sulemana.
But Mensah, who sat on the bench during the Ethiopia game, played full throttle in the defeat to the Bafana Bafana after taking the place of the absent Reading defender Baba Rahman.
The 23-year-old has been in fine form for Bordeaux since sealing a loan move from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg playing two two matches for the Mauves and Whites.
The former WAFA left-back is likely to return to action on the following matchday if he is declared Covid-19 negative after the quarantine period
