PWD unhappy with events in Parliament

Dambai (O/R) – Mr Solomon Billah, a 27-year-old Person With Disability (PWD), has expressed worry about the current happenings in Ghana’s Parliament including the ‘the exchange of blows’ over the electronic levy (E-levy).

He said the happenings were likely to discourage PWDs who would aim at vying to occupy Parliamentary Seats in the future since their lives may be in danger.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Billah disclosed said exchange of blows during proceedings in the august House over votes did not speak well of them and it was necessary they charted a new path.

He said what the Members of Parliament (MP)did had made the PWDs apprehensive and panicky and that could stifle their political ambitions to become future MPs.

Mr Billah urged politicians to ensure full participation of PWDs and their represented organisations in areas of humanitarian actions and in conflict prevention, resolution, reconciliation, reconstruction and peace building.

He said PWDS were perceived as more compassionate, honest, hardworking and competent in dealing with policies on sectors of the economy including; healthcare, minority rights and social welfare.
