Probe data to bridge academic disparities – Minister

Accra,- Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has charged the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana (EPCG) to consciously investigate existing data on academic performances of their schools to bridge any looming disparity in the educational sector.

The Minister said the world was ever-evolving and the Church needed to assess its performance position critically while replicating best practices among thriving schools in weaker ones.

Dr Adutwum made the call when the leader of the Church led by Rt. Rev. Dr Lt. Col (Rtd) Bliss Divine K. Agbeko, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church, paid a visit to him in Accra.

Reverend Emmanuel K. Amey, the Clerk of the General Assembly, presented to outline some of the pressing issues to the Minister, including the need for government to allow mission Churches to handle postings of teachers to their schools and disciplinary concerns among students.

Others are infrastructural support for rural mission schools and timely provision of scholarship incentives for students of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College.

The Minister congratulated the Church for their efforts to some of the top model Schools such as Mawuli Senior.

He promised to impress on his team to urgently refurbish Kpenoe E.P. School, a primary school owned by the Church affected by rains in the Ho Municipality.

The Moderator pledged the Church’s continued support and commitment in contributing to the educational development of the country.

Other delegation included Pastor Charles Sitsofe Sakyi (Presbyter Executive of the General Assembly), Rev. E.E. Attu (Ag. Director, Programmes, Ecumenical and Social Relations), Rev S.K. Tettey (Ag. Director HR and Admin) and Rev Dr McWilson Atakro (West Volta Presbytery Synod Moderator).

The rest are Mrs Marian J.A. Adzroe (General Manager, E.P. Schools Ghana), Prof. Edem Kwasi Bakah, President E.P. University College, Mr Jonathan G. Adomah, Headmaster, Mawuli SHS, and other representatives of Heads of schools and institutions of the Church across Ghana.
