Bimbilla (N/R), – The Nanumba North Municipal Assembly in collaboration with religious leaders has held an inter-religious prayer and thanksgiving service to thank God for what He has done for the area and to seek more blessings, mercies and prosperity in succeeding years.
This was the first time the Municipal Assembly in the Northern Region had held this event, and it also sought to bring to attention the inter-religious harmony existing among the various religions bodies and faiths in the Municipality and be emulated by ethnic groups for peaceful co-existence.
Christian and Muslim leaders in the Municipality, who gathered at Bimbilla, the Municipal capital for the event, sang praises to God and said prayers for the continued peace and prosperity in the area, and the country as a whole.
Reverend John Nlenkiba of the New Life Christian Church, who led a sermon on behalf of Christians during the event, emphasised need for people of the Municipality to love their neighbours as thy selves and as they loved God for peaceful coexistence and progress of the area.
Alhaji Jibril Abubakar of the Bimbilla Central Mosque called on the people of the area especially all influential persons to be united in thoughts and speeches to send a signal of unity amongst them.
Mr Abdulai Yaquob, Nanumba North Municipal Chief Executive said “the Municipality had been peaceful since 2020, partly attributable to the answered prayers of everybody especially our religious leaders, who devoted much of their time in prayers for peace” hence the event.
He told the religious bodies that “Your prayers should not end here, but should continue to pray for peace, security and prosperity in our mosques and churches especially during our congregational prayers.”
Mr Yaquob spoke about development in the area noting that the peace prevailing in the area had led to progress in the Municipality adding “The Bimbilla-Yendi stretch of the Eastern Corridor Roads project, which was suspended as a result of the Bimbilla conflict, is almost complete and the Assembly’s own projects are progressing steadily.”
He said “Economic activities are booming as people are able to go about their businesses without fear. Farmers are producing more than what they used to, and the transportation of foodstuffs especially yam to the southern part of the country has increased making farmers earn more. School children had their normal periods as the calendar was not disrupted.”
He added that “Workers also go about their duties without any fear and more workers now accept postings to the Municipality unlike before.”
He assured that “While we seek God’s intercession, we equally wish to assure the people of the Municipality that the Assembly and the security agencies will not sit down for a few misguided elements to turn the clock of progress backward. The security agencies are ready to deal with those, who will want to take the whole Municipality for ransom.”
