Ex-Workers Of Prestea Gold Resources Demand Compensation From Golden Star Resources

– About 1,730 former employees of the Prestea Gold Resources (PGR) Ltd who were retrenched for about two decades now, are appealing to the Golden Star Resources Ltd which took over from PGR, to pay them their 45 per cent shares.

According to the workers, their leaders signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with the management of PGR that any company that took over the Mines must pay the Ex-Workers but lamented that when Golden Star Resources took over, they did not pay the workers their entitlements.

Spokesperson to the group, Mr Richard Kweku expressed the sentiments in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Adiembra in the Western Region.

He regretted that Ex-Workers sacrificed for the company during the inception with the view that they would receive their 45 per cent of shares but that has not materialized to date.

Mr Kweku said as part of the MOU, the new company was to take steps to recall the employees but that one too had fizzled out.

On the way forward, he appealed to GSR to start negotiations with their former employees and adequately compensate them.

Mr Kweku said the former employees would advise themselves if they did not hear something positive from the company.
