Eschew greed and dishonesty to enhance national cohesion – Chief

Bibiani (WNR),- Nana Kwabena Gyamfi Akwabeng, Adontenhene of the Sefwi- Anhwiaso Traditional Council, in the Western North Region, has stated that individual greed and dishonesty greatly retard national cohesion and development.

He said such negative attitude breeds corrupt practices which leads to disaffection amongst the populace.

Nana Gyamfi said this at an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC)meeting at Bibiani.

The meeting was organized by the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), with support from the European Union (EU), under the theme, “Empowering Ghanaians to Stand for National Cohesion and Inclusive Participation.”

Nana Gyamfi said when people feel cheated and marginalized, it becomes extremely difficult to work in unity for progress.

He urged all to develop a positive mental attitude, fairness and patriotism to move the nation forward.

Mr.Patrick Nuako, Western North Regional Programmes Officer for the NCCE, charged political party representatives on Radio and Television talk shows to impress upon Ghanaians to live peacefully among themselves.

“In spite of our diversities, let’s agree to disagree for the good of our nation,” he advised.

Madam Martha Nneka Oparah, Municipal Director of the NCCE bemoaned the lack of security consciousness among Ghanaians and called for concerted efforts to heal this national defect.

Other speakers at the function included, Superintendent A.K Mensah, Municipal Police Commander and Reverend Alex Acheampong, District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG).

Fouty participants drawn from various organizations like, the Security Agencies, Political Parties, Traditional authorities, Religious and Youth groups, Traders, Persons With Disability (PWDs), the Media, the District Assembly, and a cross section of the public.
