ASHMA is ready to start Operation Clean your Frontage initiative

-The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region is ready to start the Operation Clean Your Frontage initiative across the Municipality on Friday January 28 to serve as a prelude to the main programme which will start next month.

Mr Albert Boakye Okyere, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the Assembly through its key stakeholders has put in place measures to ensure the programme would be rolled-out successfully within the municipality.

Mr Okyere hinted that the programme was not to prosecute or punish citizens, but was to ensure that residents observed good sanitation practices within their immediate surroundings at all times.

The MCE again noted that public sensitization was a key component in ensuring that the programme was successful.

He explained that it was his expectation that residents within the Municipality would embrace the programme to ensure full participation when it finally commences in February.

Mrs. Patience Wilson, Information Officer, Ashaiman Municipal Assembly said the Information Service Department (ISD) in the Municipality had embarked on some sensitisation programmes to inform the residents and emphasis the need to get involved.

She added that the Municipal Assembly would in the coming days meet some identifiable groups within the various communities and called on corporate organisations to assist the Assembly to ensure the programme was implemented successfully within the Municipality.

The Operation Clean Your Frontage was an initiative by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey to ensure that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision in making Greater Accra the cleanest city in Africa was achieved.

The Legislative Instrument (LI) which would serve as the legal framework for it has been duly passed to ensure citizens who go contrary to the laid down rules are punished to serve as a deterrent to others.

Residents including Churches, Mosques, Spots, Pubs and Corporate Organizations are, however, required to keep the frontage of their property clean at all times.
