Active voluntary community work essential for development- Yeboah

Tema, Dec. 31, GNA— The Ghana Beyond Aid Committee under the Office of the Senior Presidential Advisor has called for the active revival of the spirit of community work, voluntarily which it described as crucial in developing the nation.

According to the Ghana Beyond Aid Committee, most of the environmental challenges in the various communities required few people to come together as a team to clean the environment for it to be comfortable and safe to live in.

Dr Eric Yeboah, Secretary for the Ghana Beyond Aid Committee, which operates under the Office of the Senior Presidential Advisor, Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo, speaking to the Ghana News Agency, said the sense of voluntarism in the country was not something we could be proud of, adding that, “the little things we decide to do to ensure improvement in the communities, add up in achieving Ghana Beyond Aid.

“We must all be happy to do certain things to help our communities instead of always looking at the central government for help. Sometimes, we see the problems and wait for someone to report to the Assemblyman who also reports to the District Chief Executive, then it goes on,” he added.

Dr Yeboah said it was essential that Ghanaians found solutions to the minor issues in the community so that it would not get to the stage where it would be expected that government would now have to come and solve that problem.

He added that when citizens executed their role and responsibilities towards development, they would also be in the position to hold the government accountable.

Dr Yeboah urged citizens to be more patriotic to ensure the growth and prosperity of the country saying, “if you are patriotic, the likelihood of paying tax becomes much easy”.
