A-ensonga Hearts presents furniture to Gorigo Primary School

Gorigo (U/E), The A-ensonga Hearts, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has presented 53 dual desks to the Gorigo Primary School in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region to improve quality education at the basic level.

The NGO, apart from the furniture, also renovated four classrooms in the Kindergarten (KG) and Primary blocks, and provided the pupils with stationeries and mats all valued at GH¢20.000.00 under its, “The Furniture Project”, initiative.

The school with a population of about 255 had some pieces of furniture provided by the Global Education Partnership Grant (GPEG) in 2015, which could only seat few pupils in the upper Primary while the rest of the pupils at both the KG and Primary levels, studied on the bare floor.

At a durbar to present the furniture and renovated classrooms to the school, Ms Kenndicta A-ensonga Ajene, the Founder of the A-ensonga Hearts, expressed concern about the hitherto unfriendly conditions of the school.

“I cannot comprehend why pupils in this 21st Century still lie on their bellies to write. As an Organization with great interest in education, we were touched by the plight of the school, and immediately solicited funds from my friends and members of the public to support these little ones climb the academic ladder with comfort,” Ms Ajene said.

The Founder of the NGO recalled the plight of the school as posted on social media by Madam Jessica Seidu, a teacher in the school to solicit furniture from individuals, philanthropists, and organisations for the school.

She indicated that the project would be extended to other deprived schools in the Northern and Upper West Regions, and stressed on the need for stakeholders to pay critical attention to education in rural areas across the country, noting that “Education is the way to end poverty in the country.”

Ms Ajene expressed gratitude to her friends, members of the public, and all who contributed financially to support the project and urged the pupils to take care of the furniture so that the furniture would last to serve the intended purpose, and further advised them to take their studies seriously.

Mr Michael Zoogah the Winkongo Circuit Supervisor who received the furniture and items on behalf of the District Directorate of Education, thanked A-ensonga Hearts for the gesture.

He used the occasion to appeal to other NGOs to extend support to schools in the community and disclosed that some schools in the Circuit had four pupils on one desk which affected academic activities in the area and across the District.

Mr Samuel Amanze Billa, the Head teacher of the Gorigo Primary School, said the plight of the school was a matter of concern to stakeholders in education in the District.

He said the plight posted on social media, by Madam Seidu, caught the attention of the Accra-based NGO and it moved in to improve teaching and learning in the school.

He said apart from the negative impact the poor condition of the school had on academic activities, pupils often appeared very duty and unkempt owing to the dusty floor they laid on to learn, and used the opportunity to call on other NGOs, philanthropists, and individuals to support the school.
