WASSCE: a yardstick to determine academic success, Bono Minister

Chiraa (B/R),– Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister Tuesday, said the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) remains a foundation stone and yardstick to determine the academic and life success of every individual.

She advised candidates writing the examination this year to be confident, write and pass well to enable them to further their education to the tertiary level, and complete to acquire decent jobs to build their future lives.

Mad Owusu-Banahane however, cautioned the candidates against all forms of examination malpractices, saying cheating would lead to the cancellation of their results which could truncate their education to ruin their future.

She reminded the candidates that the government had spent much on them through the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme, indicating the surest way they could justify the government’s investment was for them to pass the examination.

Mad Owusu-Banahane gave the advice when she visited and interacted with candidates writing the WASSCE at the Chiraa SHS on Monday in the Sunyani West Municipality of the region.

Other institutions visited by the Regional Minister included the Wenchi Methodist SHS and Koase Senior High/Technical School in the Wenchi Municipality.

“You are the future leaders who would hold responsible positions and that is why your parents and the government had invested much in your education. I am therefore begging you to do your best and pass the examination well. We would be much disappointed if you fail us”, she told the candidates.

Mad Owusu-Banahene indicated examination malpractices had caused “great havoc to many people who have regretted in life, but they cannot change the hands of time”, and advised the candidates not to send any foreign material to the examination hall.

She advised invigilators and supervisors to avoid tendencies that could psychologically scare and cause an unnecessary panic because that could affect the candidates’ performance because they needed sound minds and a peaceful atmosphere to tackle the examination questions.
