A two-time parliamentary candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Kingsley Kanton has defected to the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the ambitious politician with a large following in the Sissala East Constituency, his decision is borne out of the fact that the umbrella party will give him the platform to reach his full potential to achieve his political dream.
“Over the last couple of months, I have undergone an ideological realignment, one that allows me to work with the party that is on a course to change Ghana.
“Without the slightest doubt in my mind, as a Social democratic movement, the NDC offers a compassionate political philosophy that creates opportunities for all to develop to their fullest potential and I subscribe to this ideology wholly,” Kingsley Kanton said at a press conference on Saturday, December 4, 2021.
He added, “I’m elated for the open arms that have been received me into the NDC family.”
Reacting to the news in an interview with Citi FM, General Secretary of the People’s National Convention, Janet Nabila says the party is heartbroken after learning that Kingsley Kanton has defected to the NDC.
She said, “It is a very painful experience. Very painful, disheartening, and heartbreaking that one of the most powerful constituencies, our parliamentary candidate for just 2020 has left us and is now joining the NDC. It is very painful.
Kingsley Kanton was the PNC’s parliamentary candidate in the Sissala East constituency for the 2016 and 2020 general elections.
On both occasions, he beat the NDC candidate but lost to the NPP candidate.
With his huge following in the constituency, the NDC is now confident of snatching the Sissala East seat from the NPP in the 2024 general elections.
