Tutors of Akatsi College of Education join nationwide CETAG strike

Akatsi (VR),– The Akatsi College of Education branch of the College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) in the Volta Region has given their full support by joining the nationwide strike declared by the leadership of the Association.

The nationwide strike declared by the leadership of the Association in a statement on Wednesday, January 5, received the full support of the over 50 tutors of the College.

Mr Ismael Edem Dorwu, the Akatsico branch Chairman of CETAG, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that “all its members on the college were in full support of the indefinite strike action and would only resume work after government heeded to their demands.

“One core action during the strike would be the withdrawal of teaching activities,” he said.

However, Mr Dorwu said other non-teaching activities on campus would be carried out.

CETAG declared an indefinite strike on grounds of failure by the government to implement the 2017-2020 Conditions of Service (CoS) as agreed for members after both parties had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 24 last year.

According to CETAG, the said (CoS) states the effective date of implementation as January 1, 2021, while payment of associated arrears of nine months was to be paid in October, November, and December 2021.

“The Association’s National Council has resolved to follow through with its decision to withdraw TEACHING, one of its main duties as stipulated in the Harmonised Conditions for Colleges of Education effective Thursday, January 6, 2022,” the statement said.

It further directed all CETAG members across the 46 Ghanaian public Colleges of Education to comply with the directive until further advice.
