Kumasi,— Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, Chief of Asafo, in Kumasi, has appealed to traditional leaders to work closely with the church to bring development to the people.
The two entities, he said, were agents of change, as they were mandated to work for the common good of the society.
“The work we are doing is service unto our nation. We do not do it for ourselves,” Akyamfour Agyemang-Bonsu noted.
The Chief, who is also the Head of the Akwamu Divisional Council, Kumasi, said this during a thanksgiving service to mark his first anniversary of enstoolment, held at the Asafo Palace in the Ashanti Region.
Akyamfour Agyemang-Bonsu, born in 1959, completed his GCE Advanced Level of Education at the Konongo-Odumasi Secondary School.
He then gained admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and continued to do his postgraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, Norway.
Akyamfour Agyemang-Bonsu has had some work experiences with the Environmental Protection Agency as well as the United Nations Office at Bonn, Germany, where he served as Manager for Climate Change.
He was installed as chief on December 17, 2020.
The Chief, an advocate for community development and welfare of the people, said the sustainable growth of the Ghanaian society was a shared responsibility.
He would, therefore, not relent in working with stakeholders to tackle development challenges in society.
Akyamfour Agyemang-Bonsu promised to use all the money gathered from the thanksgiving service, held in his honour, to support the Church of Pentecost so that “it can stand and become a memorial.”
The Chief said the kind gesture was in appreciation of the Church for instilling Christian values in him.
He was grateful to the chiefs, both within and outside the Akwamu Division, as well as individuals and organizations who had been supportive of his reign.
In a sermon delivered at the event, Apostle Yaw Adjei Kwarteng, Head of the Church of Pentecost, Bompata, lauded the Asafohene for his reverence to God and entreated him to remain humble and loyal to his people during his reign.
