– Bishop Dr. Charles Hackman, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of “Here for Perfection” (H4P) a non-governmental organization (NGO), that seeks the welfare of persons with disability, has noted that there is ability in every disability, therefore, “society should encourage people with disability to exhibit their talents and abilities”.
Bishop Hackman said that often disability was unfortunately associated with misfortune, negligence, disgrace, failure, and helplessness.
He said as part of efforts to strengthen the abilities of people with disabilities the H4P Organization had set out to redefine these erroneous labels and misconceptions associated with disability by giving them the medium to showcase their talents.
Bishop Hackman who was speaking at the concert organized by H4P for persons with disabilities explained that “H4P holds fast to the mantra, ability in disability,” and, therefore, seeks to throw the spotlight on the success stories of persons with disability.
The event dubbed: “Ability Praise Concert 2022,” was organized to mark the eleventh anniversary of the H4P and the Helping Hand Project which is a project being undertaken with the main objective of lending a helping hand to the underprivileged.
The reason behind the organization of the FCC- H4P concert was to reshape society’s concept about disabilities.
The event had a display of talents from some disabilities from the H4P group which included singing, dancing, and poem recitals.
Madam Emma Lilian Bruce-Lyle Board Member, National Council of Persons with Disabilities stated that no one was created useless on earth by God; “everyone was created with a gift and those with disabilities are not different”.
“I must say a big thank you to Bishop Charles Hackman for organizing a programme because he has helped to prove that there is an ability in every disability”.
Madam Bruce-Lyle mentioned that in all her 75 years of life, it was God that had kept her through her condition till now; “the abled people always think for us, but I believe they are supposed to make things available for the disabled so they don’t feel limited”.
She explained that there was a need to create opportunities for the disabled so that they do not feel useless, as she believes that they could also contribute greatly to society.
Madam Mawunyo Yakor-Dabga, President of Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations also raised concerns that the journey of those with disabilities was not an easy one; “whether born with it or gotten through tragedies of life, one was still human in spite of all the disabilities.
Madam Yakor-Dabga who is also First Vice President of the West Africa Federation of the Disabled said: “I am glad I got to be a part of this great initiative of Bishop Charles Hackman to bring dignity to disabilities.
“Disability is not an obstacle to success, but it is in our society because the first thing people see is our disabilities; there is a need to prove to them that indeed there is an ability in every disability”.
