”The aim is to see Ghana football grow” – Lilwin on taking up football

Accra,- Popular Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah “Lilwin” says the reason for taking up football as a profession is to rekindle the love for the sport among Ghanaians.

Lilwin made history by becoming the first actor in Ghana to play professional football after making his debut for Division One League side New Edubiase United in the ongoing Division One League.

Lilwin, who made a cameo in the second half, helped his team secure a 2-0 win over Unistar Academy in the match-week five encounter of the Division.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the multiple award-winning actor and musician was elated with the latest milestone, but said the ambition was to see Ghana football grow.

“When I initially signed for New Edubiase, people thought it was a joke but I’m happy after making my professional debut for the club.

“The ultimate aim of playing football is to see the sport grow, so that Ghanaians will enjoy the game of football but also I have ambitions of playing outside Ghana,” he stated.

When asked about whether he would like to feature for either Asante Kotoko or Accra Hearts of Oak, Lilwin said: ” I’m ready to feature for any club that wants my services but my target is to play for a foreign team.”

New Edubiase United are currently joint top of Zone 2 League table together with Sarmatex on 12 points.
